MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Despite winning the opening contest of a Gulf South Conference doubleheader 3-2 with a walk-off hit on Sunday, the Auburn Montgomery baseball team was unable to carry the momentum into the second contest as visiting Shorter University won 11-2 for a twin-bill split.
NOTES
• AUM moves to 15-21 overall, 5-15 in Gulf South Conference action.
• Shorter moves to 18-18, 8-12 in GSC play.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Junior left fielder
Matthew Zielonko went 2-3 at the plate with one RBI and two walks.
• Junior third baseman
Logan Nix went 2-5 with a run scored and RBI.
• Senior
Nathan Langley went 0-2 at the plate with two walks and a run scored while getting the win on the mound after holding Shorter without a run over the final 1.2 innings.
• Senior southpaw
Garrett Deloney got the start and held the Hawks scoreless over 6.2 innings with four hits allowed and two strikeouts.
• For Shorter, Nathaniel Buttersworth went 2-4 with a run scored while Jacob Ramos logged eight innings in the start.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Leading off the bottom of the fifth with a single, senior catcher
Parker Moman touched home plate for the first run of the contest off a two-out hit from Nix.
• AUM extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh, getting Nix on base via a single with a double from Zielonko sending him home to make it 2-0.
• Loading up the bases off a double and two walks in the top of the eighth, Shorter knotted up the score on a two-RBI sacrifice fly.
• AUM loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth via walks for Langley and Zeilonko sandwiching a single for senior first baseman

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• AUM tallied eight hits while Shorter had six.
• The Warhawks left nine runners on base, Shorter stranded seven.
• Shorter recorded three errors.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Sophomore catcher
Kyle Khoury went 2-2 with a run scored.
• Langley went 2-4 with a RBI. The senior now has 52 hits on the season, matching his total from the 2017 campaign.
• Nix went 1-3 with a pair of walks.
• Redshirt junior righty
Connor Smith logged 2.0 innings of relief on the mound, holding Shorter to one hit and no runs.
• For Shorter, Raul Cortes went 2-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while Rhys Pollock got the win on the mound after limiting AUM to one hit over 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Shorter opened up the second game of the doubleheader with an eight-run first inning.
• Leading off the bottom of the second with a walk, AUM loaded the bases off a single and hit by pitch before a two-out single for Langley scored Brandt and put the Warhawks on the scoreboard with a second run coming off a Hawks' error to score Khoury and make it 8-2.
• Back-to-back home runs for Shorter from Cortes and Samry Santos to begin the top of the fourth created a 10-2 score.
• Shorter added to their lead on a RBI groundout from Angel Acosta in the top of the seventh, scoring Blake Metcalfe to make it 11-2.

• AUM tallied five hits while Shorter had 12.
• The Warhawks left eight runners on base, Shorter stranded five.
• Shorter recorded two errors.
