HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on day one of the 2018 UAH Classic hosted by Alabama Huntsville, falling to Ouachita Baptist (3-0) and host UAH (3-0) in the Warhawks' first action of the season.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 0-2 to start the season.
• OBU and UAH both improved to 1-0 with the win.
• The Warhawks started last season going 2-2 at the UAH Classic.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior outside hitter
Sommer Rhea led the team in kills on the day with 15 and digs with 17.
• Senior middle blocker
Brianna Garvin was second on the team in kills with 10.
• Senior setter
Carly Smart tallied 26 assists to lead all Warhawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED – OUACHITA BAPTIST
• The first set saw the two teams battle to a 4-4 tie set up by an
Emily Ward service ace, but OBU would go on a 12-3 run to go up 16-7 on a Katie Camp kill. The Tigers would distance themselves down the stretch to earn a 25-12 victory, finishing off the Warhawks with a Hannah Johnston service ace.
• The Tigers jumped out to a 19-9 lead the second set before AUM rallied for five consecutive points to cut the OBU lead to 19-14, but the Orange & Black could not complete the comeback, falling 25-18.
• The third set saw OBU jump out to a 12-6 advantage before a kill by Smart pulled the Warhawks to within five, but the Tigers would close out the match on a 13-1 run to earn a 25-8 set victory and a 3-0 match win.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – OUACHITA BAPTIST
• AUM recorded 23 kills on 94 attacks, committing 23 errors in the match.
• OBU tallied 41 kills on 88 attacks with only seven errors.
• Rhea led AUM in kills with seven while Smart tallied 17 assists, with both players tying for the team lead in digs with eight apiece.
• The Tigers were led by Katie Camp who tallied 10 kills. Setter Stormi Leonard posted 30 assists in directing the OBU offense to a .386 hitting percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED – ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE
• The first set saw the Warhawks and the Chargers battle to a 4-4 tie before UAH rallied for seven straight points. UAH would finish the frame on a 14-7 run to take the set 25-12.
• AUM would rally for a pair of points to tie the second set up at 5-5 before the two teams traded points back and forth. UAH then went on a 12-3 run to go up 19-9 before eventually winning 25-14.
• The Warhawks would jump out to a 13-11 lead capped off by a Garvin kill before the Chargers went on a 5-1 run to go up 16-14. Despite the Warhawks best efforts the Chargers would use that momentum to win the set 25-17 and take the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE
• AUM tallied 23 kills on 95 attempts while UAH tallied 41 kills on 95 attempts.
• The Warhawks had 19 attack errors to just 11 for the Chargers.
• UAH posted 10 blocks to only three for AUM.

The Warhawks will play LeMoyne-Owen College on Saturday at 1 p.m. to close out the 2018 UAH Classic.
