West Georgia Upends AUM For 3-0 Victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a match that featured 34 tie scores and 16 lead changes the Auburn Montgomery volleyball team fell to Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 25-19) to the Wolves in league play.
 
NOTES
• AUM falls to 8-7 on the season and 0-5 in the GSC.
• UWG improves to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in league play.
• The Warhawks are now 1-1 lifetime against the Wolves.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior outside hitter Sommer Rhea led the team in kills once again with 11 on the day. She also led the team in digs with 13.
• Freshman outside hitter Nyah Whittlesey tallied eight kills and 11 digs.
• Senior middle blocker Keara Scott tallied seven kills and three blocks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set was a back and forth affair, with neither team able to record more than four points in a row. AUM pulled ahead for a 21-20 lead on a kill by Rhea, but UWG responded with a 4-0 run to get to set point at 24-21. Scott was able to hold off the end of the match with a kill but the Wolves' Niah Bruce finished it off one play later with a kill from Madi Fleming.
• The Warhawks jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second set only to see the Wolves go on a 5-2 run to tie the set at 7-7. Once again the two teams traded points back and forth, with neither team able to score more then two points in a row. Scott tied the match at 21-21 but the Wolves go on a 4-1 run the rest of the way to take the set 25-22.
• The third set saw the two UWG and AUM battle to an 8-8 tie before the Wolves were able to rattle off a 7-1 run to go up 15-9. The Warhawks broke serve and went on a 3-0 run in response, but the Wolves responded with an 8-1 run to go up 23-13. The Orange & Black rallied for six straight points to pull to within 23-19 on a kill by Rhea that forced a timeout by UWG. The timeout would settle the Wolves, who would get a pair of kills from Anjelina Webb to end the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

• The match featured 34 tie scores and 16 lead changes.
• UWG tallied 38 kills while AUM recorded 32.
• The Warhawks tallied 55 digs while UWG posted 50.
 
UP NEXT
The Warhawks will hit the road once again in their next match, taking on non-conference foe Albany State on Tuesday, Sept. 25 on the campus of the Golden Rams. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
