MONTGOMERY, Ala.– An 81st minute Barry University goal proved to be the difference maker in the Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team's 1-0 loss to the Buccaneers on Thursday, September 6th. With the loss, the Warhawk's record drops to 1-2 on the season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- - Freshman Goalkeeper Alexander Kraus (0-1) made his collegiate debut for the Warhawks in goal, tallying a season-best six saves in the contest.
- - Phillip Spickenbaum took a team-high two shots on the evening, with one of those coming on frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- - Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first half, as the score stood 0-0 through the first 45 minutes of play.
- - The Bucs got an early chance at a scoring opportunity in the 7th minute, but had their opportunity denied by a diving effort from Krauss to prevent the score.
- - The Warhawks got one of their best scoring looks in the 19th minute, on a low-lining Spickenbaum shot that would ultimately find the Barry keeper.
- - The Bucs notched the game-winning goal in the 81st minute, after Barry Aday's penalty kick was saved by Kraus, but would found Aday's foot off the deflection for the goal.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- - The Warhawks took five shots in the match, while the Buccaneers took 15, including eight on frame. Four of AUM's five shots came in the second half.
- - Barry took eight corner kicks, while AUM took three.
- - The Warhawks were on the receiving end of 25 foul calls, while the Buccaneers were whistled for 12.
