Men’s Soccer Edged by #9 Palm Beach Atlantic, 2-1

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team fought hard, but fell 2-1 to the number-nine ranked Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic University on Sunday evening.
 
With the loss, the Warhawks record sits at 1-3 for the season.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Junior forward Billy Murphy scored his first goal as a Warhawk in the match. The Genesee Community College transfer also led AUM with two shots taken, with both shots coming on frame.
- Freshman midfielder Raphael Meyerhoff also notched a pair of shots for the Warhakws on the evening.
- Goalkeeper Alexander Kraus collected a career-high seven saves on the evening, including several big saves down the stretch to keep the game within striking distance for AUM.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sailfish drew first blood in the contest, scoring the match's first goal in the 24th minute. Rafael Souza was able to capitalize off of a deflected shot by Cadu Cusatis and find the back of the net for the Sailfish.
- The Warhawks would go on to tie the match in the 67th minute, on Murphy's low-lining shot that beat an out-of-position Sailfish goalkeeper.
- Keeper Kraus came up for big for the Warhawks in the 78th minute, with one of his better saves of the night on a well-struck Sailfish shot from inside the box to keep the match tied.
- Freshman midfielder Phillip Spickenbaum saw one of the better scoring opportunities for AUM late in the 83rd minute, as his header from inside the box went just wide.
- The game-winning goal for Palm Beach Atlantic came in the 85th minute. Kraus was able to turn away a shot from Rafael Souza, but the deflection off of the save found the foot of Claudio Rivadeneria, who was able to just get it past Kraus for the score.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Sailfish took 22 shots with nine on frame, while the Warhawks took six with two on frame.
- The Warhawks were whistled for 13 fouls, while the Sailfish were tagged with 11.
- AUM committed just one offside infraction on the night, while Palm Beach Atlantic committed five. 
 
UP NEXT
- The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they take on the Buffaloes of Milligan College in Milligan College, Tenn. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
