Warhawks Notch First Win of Sean Page Era in 49-48 Thriller at Shorter

ROME, Ga. – Freshman guard Jordan Brewster tallied a career-high 32 points, including the game winning thee-pointer with 28 seconds to go, to help lift the Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team to a 49-48 win over Shorter on Saturday, Jan. 12 and secure the Warhawk's first victory under Head Coach Sean Page
 
Notes
- With the win, AUM's record improves to 1-14 on the season and 1-7 in GSC play.
 The Warhawk's all-time series advantage over Shorter moves to 33-9. 
- The Warhawks led for 33 minutes of game time on the day, equivalent to 
84.5 percent of the game. 
- Brewster's 32-point performance marks for the first 30-point game from an AUM women's basketball player since the 2016-17 campaign. 
- Saturday's contest marked for the forth-straight game for the Warhawks decided by a one-possession difference. 
 
Standout Performers
- Brewster's 32 points came on an 11-22 shooting performance, highlighted a career-high eight three-pointers. The freshman guard also grabbed three rebounds and three steals.
- Aaliyah Milord pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds, to go along with two points, two assists, two steals and a block.
- Makaylla Bullard dished out six assists on the afternoon, while also scoring four points and securing three rebounds.
- Jessika Milton contributed for six points off of the bench, while also accounting for a rebound and an assist.
 
How it Happened
- Both teams saw a slow start to open up the game offensively, with the score knotted up at five-all through the first five and a half minutes of the first quarter. 
- The Warhawks would get things going in the latter minutes of the period, with a 9-5 run to finish the period on top 14-10. All nine points in the final minutes of the quarter came via the three-ball, including a pair of treys from Brewster who would finish with nine points in the period.
- The Warhawks continued their offensive groove in the second period, shooting 50 percent from the floor. 
- A three-pointer from Brewster with 2:14 left in the quarter for her 20th point of the game gave AUM their largest lead of the quarter at 30-18, but Shorter would tally the period's final four points to see AUM lead 30-22 at the break.
- After seeing the Hawks notch the first three points of the third, AUM would rebuttal with the next four points to lead 34-25 at the first media timeout of the second half. 
- The Warhawks would go on to jump out to their largest lead of the game on a three-pointer by Brewster at the 3:05 mark in the third to put AUM up 39-27.
- A quick 4-0 run by the hawks in the final minutes of the third would be thwarted by a three-pointer from Evelina Avleeva, to give AUM a 42-31 advantage at the end of the third. 
- The Hawks would begin quarter number four on a 9-0 run to pull to within two points of the Warhawks at 42-40. 
- AUM would retaliate with four unanswered points, however, including a jumper from Bullard to put AUM up 46-40 with 3:34 left.
- Shorter would rattle off the next eight points, including a pair of free throws to take a 48-46 lead with 33 seconds to go.
- Brewster would knock down the game-winning three-pointer with 28 seconds to go, with the AUM defense holding off a final effort from the Hawks to secure the 49-48 win.

"I'm very happy for the team," Page said. "These kids have worked so hard and have been right there at the end of our last several games, but hadn't been able to get over the top.Hopefully this win will give us some momentum down the stretch. Also, a special shout out goes to Jordan (Brewster) for her performance today. All in all, it was a good team win." 
 
Inside the Boxscore
- AUM shot 36.7 percent (18-49) from the field on the day, while Shorter posted a 35.3 (18-51) percent field-goal percentage.
- The Warhawks shot a season-best 42 percent on three-pointers, going 11-26 from beyond the arc in the contest.
- The Warhawks posted double-digit assists for the ninth time this season with 12, while holding Shorter to just four.
