PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team trailed the University of West Florida by just seven points at halftime, but a strong second-half showing by the Argonauts proved to be enough for them to cruise to a 73-44 Gulf-South-Conference victory over the Warhawks on Monday, Jan. 28.
NOTES
- With the loss, AUM's record drops to 2-17 overall, and 1-10 in GSC play.
- AUM's all-time series record against UWF drops to 14-8 with the setback.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Jordan Brewster led AUM in scoring on the evening, with 10 points on a 4-10 shooting night from the field.

Aaliyah Milord pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while also scoring seven points and distributing an assist.

Victoria Morales grabbed six rebounds, in addition to scoring eight points.

Kendra Boone chipped in for a season-high six points on a season-high 23 minutes of action. Boone also accounted for three rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A back-and-forth first quarter saw AUM and West Florida sit tied at nine-all through the first six minutes of play.
Makaylla Bullard gave AUM their first lead of the game at 11-9 on a jumper from the right wing with 3:38 left in the first.
- West Florida would tie the score back up at 11-11 with 3:07 to go in the quarter, but the Warhawks would rattle off a 4-0 run, courtesy of a pair of successful layups from Milord, to lead 15-11 at the end of the first.
- AUM kicked off the second quarter with an old-fashioned three-point play from
Jessika Milton, as she was able to convert an and-one and a free throw, to put the Warhawks up 18-11 over the Argos at the 9:38 mark in the period.
- The Warhawks would push their lead to 10 points at 21-11 after another successful dribble-drive from Milton at the 7:28 mark in the period, but the Argos would battle back with a 16-4 run to regain the lead at 27-25 with 3:24 to go in the second.
- The Argos would continue their offensive push to go up 31-26 with a minute and a half left in the second, but a Brewster three would bring AUM back within two points at 31-29 with 1:04 left in the half.
- West Florida would finish the period on a 5-0 run over the final minute, capped off by a three-pointer at the buzzer, to give them a 36-29 advantage at the break.
- The Argos would score the first five points of the second half to extend their lead to double digits at 41-29 at the 9:11 mark.
- West Florida would continue to click offensively, putting together an 18-8 run over the remainder of the period to hold a 59-37 lead at the end of the third.
- The Argos outscored AUM 14-7 in quarter number four to grab the 73-44 victory.
QUOTING THE COACH
"I thought we played a great first half and gave one of the top teams in our region all that they could handle," Head Coach
Sean Page said. "We just ran out of gas in the second half. West Florida is just on another level. They are a really good team, and their quality really came through for them in the second half."
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Warhawks shot just over 35 percent (18-51) from the floor on the night, while the Argos shot 42 percent (25-59) on the evening.
- West Florida bested AUM in the rebounding battle, 47-27.
- AUM tallied 20 points in the paint, while also getting 11 points of contribution off of the bench.
- Monday's game featured four lead changes and two tied scores.

- The Warhawks will return to the hardwood on Thursday, Jan. 31 when they host Delta State in GSC play. Tip-off from the AUM Gymnasium is slated for 6:00 p.m.
