Women’s Basketball Gets Revenge On Lady Bears 52-43

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After falling to the Miles College Lady Bears just seven days ago, the Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team captured a 52-43 victory at home on Wednesday night.

NOTES
- AUM now sports a 4-1 record on the year.
- Miles suffers their first loss of the season and now stand at 3-1.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Jordan Brewster led the team in points with 12.
- Victoria Morales gained a team-high nine rebounds in contest.
- Aaliyah Milord stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just like their first meeting, both sides started cold from the field. The Warhawks and the Lady Bears were 2-5 from the floor to start the game which resulted in a slight AUM lead early on. Brewster led the way early on with her 3-point shooting and propelled AUM to a slim advantage in the first. Foul trouble let the Lady Bears tie the game at five in the early stages, aiding a 9-0 run. The Warhawks would answer with jumpers from Jemaiya Lee and Milord to tie the game at 9-9. The end of the first quarter saw little offensive action from both teams, and the game went into the second frame with the Lady Bears leading 13-10.
- The Orange & Black carried a five-minute scoreless streak into the second quarter. The streak was snapped by a Milord free throw four minutes into the second quarter to cut the Miles lead down to 20-12. AUM came back to cut the lead down to four thanks to the efforts of Catlin Carter from both the free-throw line and the floor as the Orange & Black cut the lead to 20-16 with just over two minutes to go in the half. AUM ended the first half on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 20 going into the half.
- AUM took their first lead since the opening seconds of the game on a layup from Morales to give the Orange & Black a 22-20 lead. A Brewster 3-pointer and a Lee layup would push AUM's run to 17-0 before Miles answered with a jumper to run the game to 27-22. A Miles jumper midway through the third quarter would cap a 22-4 AUM run and the shot resulted in a 34-26 Warhawk lead. Neither side would hit a shot for the next three minutes until Miles' Je'Keria Strickland hit a 3-pointer to cut the AUM lead to five. Miles cut the lead to as little as four but the Warhawks answered with a pair of buckets to take a 41-33 lead heading into the final quarter.
- To start the fourth quarter, Lee would hit a jumper from the right elbow to extend the Warhawk lead to eight at the time. The Orange & Black took advantage of some lackluster free-throw shooting from the Lady Bears and kept their stronghold on Miles for the first three minutes of the fourth. The Lady Bears and the Warhawks experienced scoring droughts in the middle parts of the fourth quarter, with Miles going scoreless for six minutes, and AUM scoreless for four. The teams would trade 3-point shots to run the game 48-41 inside of a minute left to play. The Warhawks closed out the game in commanding fashion and would walk away with a 52-43 victory.

QUOTING THE COACH
"It was a similar game to what it was at their place last Wednesday. We had a good crowd tonight and great support which was really crucial to us. We came very prepared today and seeing them once before helped with that."
