Softball Sweeps Twin Bill With Albany State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery softball team saw its season-opening win streak extended to 11 games this season this afternoon when the Warhawks swept a doubleheader with Albany State University, earning 9-0 five-inning victory in game one before taking game two 7-1.
 
NOTES
• AUM improves to 11-0 on the season.
• The Golden Rams fall to 2-8 overall.
•The Orange & Black have outscored opponents 100-6 over their 11 games.
• The last time the Warhawks won 11 in a row to start the season came during the 2013 campaign, when the Orange & Black won 13 in a row to start the year.
• AUM have scored in the first inning in 10 straight games, having also been the team to score first in all 11 contests.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Freshman shortstop Olivia Aycock went 3-for-5 on the day with three runs scored while stealing three bases.
• Junior outfielder Parker Pinholster 2-for-3 in the two games with four stolen bases, three runs scored, two runs batted in and was hit by a pitch three times.
• Sophomore pitcher Michaelyn Foster picked up the game one victory as she has now pitched 10.0 innings in a row without giving up a hit or a walk. Foster is now 3-0 on the season.
• Freshman Savanna Holmes pitched 2.0 shutout innings in relief of Foster in game one, striking out a career best six batters while allowing a hit and a walk.
• Freshman Jade Ingram picked up the game two victory to improve to 2-0 on the season, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
• Once again AUM was able to hang a crooked number up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, scoring first on an Aycock/Pinholster double steal that saw an errant throw by the catcher sale past third base to allow Aycock to score and Pinholster to reach third. Morgan Duschell then laid down a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt to plate Pinholster while reaching first on the play. Abby Krueger then tripled to right to score Duschell and then was brought home on an infield error by Albany with Jasmine Thompson at the plate to give the Warhawks a 4-0 lead.
• Dailey led off the second with a walk and then was driven in by a Jaycie Walker double to left-center to give AUM a five run advantage. After an Aycock single to left Pinholster doubled down the leftfield line to score Aycock again and put the Orange & Black up 6-0.
• The Warhawks scored two more in the bottom of the third, plating runs on a Foster sac bunt that scored Krueger from third and then Kendall Tucker driving in another run on a single to center to put AUM up 8-0.
• Pinholster led off the fourth with a hit by pitch and then stole second. Duschell laid down a sac bunt to get Pinholster to third to set up Brooke Perrigin, who doubled down the leftfield to score Pinholster and put the Warhawks up 9-0.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
• AUM scored nine runs on seven hits with one error.
• ASU was held scoreless on one hit while committing three errors.
• Golden Rams' Starter Aryn McGowan fell to 1-4 on the year, pitching 4.0 innings with three walks and four strike outs.
• The Warhawks stole 10 bases in the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
• Aycock recorded the first hit of the contest in the bottom of the first and proceeded to steal second. Pinholster hit a single to center to score Aycock and then advanced to second on the throw. Pinholster then stole third and scored on an error by ASU's catcher who threw it passed the third baseman as Pinholster slid into the bag. After one inning AUM led 2-0.
• Krueger started off the bottom of the second with her first home run of the season, sending a shot to left to put the Warhawks up 3-0.
• McGowan, who was in the designated player position for game two, led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot to left-center to cut the AUM advantage to 3-1.
• After being held scoreless in the third, AUM scored another run in the bottom of the fourth when Holmes singled to centerfield with Foster at third to push the Warhawks' lead to 4-1.
• Duschell put the Orange & Black up 5-1 with a bunt single that scored Walker from third after Walker had started off the frame with a double to right and then reached third on an Aycock sac bunt.
• AUM scored two more in the bottom of the sixth. Jasmine Thompson led off the inning with a single to center and then stole second. After a ground out advanced her to third Tucker laid down a fielder's choice sac bunt to score Thompson. Tucker then stole second and was driven in by Dailey who hit a base knock to right.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME TWO
• AUM scored seven runs on 10 hits with no errors.
• Albany scored one run on six hits with three errors.
• ASU's Lauren Lowery fell to 1-4 on the year, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with two strike outs over 6.0 innings.
• The Warhawks stole five bases in the contest.
