LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with the University of West Alabama on Friday afternoon, as the Warhawks dropped game one 5-1 to end their 11-game win streak before sophomore pitcher
Michaelyn Foster tossed her second no-hitter of the season in AUM's 7-0 victory in game two.
NOTES
• AUM goes to 12-1 on the season with a 1-1 mark in league play.
• UWA moves to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the GSC.
• The Warhawks had only allowed six runs over 11 games before the Tigers scored five in game one.
•The Orange & Black have outscored opponents 108-11 over their first 13 games.
• The last time the Warhawks won 11 in a row to start the season came during the 2013 campaign, when the Orange & Black won 13 in a row to start the year.
• AUM have scored in the first inning in 12 straight games, having also been the team to score first in all 13 contests.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Foster tossed her second no-hitter of the season in game two to improve to 4-0 on the season. She has not allowed a hit in her last four outings, a streak of 17.0 innings.
• Sophomore slugger
Jaycie Walker went 3-for-6 at the plate with a run scored. Walker recorded a double and accounted for four total bases over two games while also picking up a pair of walks.
• Freshman shortstop
Olivia Aycock was 2-for-6 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
• The Warhawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when
Parker Pinholster hit a single to center field with the speedy Aycock on second to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
• UWA responded in the bottom of the first, scoring a pair of runs on a bunt single followed by an error by the Warhawks that allowed the home-standing Tigers a 2-1 lead.
• Neither team would score in the second or third before Nicole Buccieri homered to left with a runner on first to put the Tigers up 4-1 after four innings.
• The Tigers then added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a McKinley Parris sacrifice bunt that scored a runner from third.
• The Orange & Black would load the bases in the top of the seventh but could not scratch off any runs, as the Tigers picked up the 5-1 victory to snap AUM's winning streak.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
• AUM scored one run on four hits with one error.
• UWA scored five runs on eight hits while committing three errors.
•
Chanel Newcomer was credited with the loss to fall to 3-1 on the season after allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings.
• The Tigers' Nora Keehn improved to 3-2 this season allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
• The Warhawks scored three runs in the top of the first after Walker led off the game with a double to left. She came around to score on an error by the UWA defense with Pinholster reaching base on the play. After
Gracie Harris drew a walk the Warhawks pulled off a double steal to get runners at second and third, with Pinholster scoring on the throw down to second. Foster singled to left to plate Harris, giving AUM a 3-0 advantage.
• AUM scored four runs in the top of the second, loading the bases with one out for
Morgan Duschell. Duschell reached base on an infield error that scored two runs to put AUM up 5-0. Harris hit a bunt single with runners at second and third to score another run, with Harris eventually reaching third and scoring on a wild pitch two batters later.
• Foster would retire 18 of the next 20 batters for UWA, giving up a walk and a hit by pitch over the next five half innings.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME TWO
• AUM scored seven runs on seven hits with no errors.
• UWA was held scoreless and hitless while committing two errors.
• The Tigers' starter Kacy Noland fell to 2-2 on the season after allowing three runs on two hits in 0.2 innings.
