LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team recorded a record 22 hits en route to their first Gulf South Conference series win of the 2019 campaign with a 14-9 victory over West Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Tartt Field.
NOTES
- With the win, AUM improves to 7-4 on the season and wraps up the first conference series of the season with a record of 2-1.
- West Alabama drops to 5-4 in overall, with a 1-2 record in GSC play.
- The first five hitters for AUM combined to go 15-26 with 11 RBIs and eight runs scored.
- All nine starters for the Warhawks recorded at least one hit, while eight registered two or more.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Matthew Zielonko went 3-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored in the winning effort.

Casey Henderson set the pace offensively for AUM, going 3-6 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
- Tiger's catcher Jake Hartman pounded two home runs while driving in four runs.

Micah Henderson got the start on the bump for AUM and delivered six innings, giving up just two earned runs while allowing seven hits to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Quinterrious Arrington reached base three times for AUM, smacking two hits including a walk. He would also come around to score twice for the Warhawks.

Dalton Cobb led the Warhawks in hits with four. The left fielder was able to knock in two runs with a pair of doubles.

Jonathan Brandt recorded three hits of his own against UWA, knocking in three Warhawks while also scoring a run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning and jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the initial frame. AUM registered eight hits, including two extra base hits in the seven-run frame.
- AUM's first inning opened with two-straight doubles followed by back to back singles by
Grayson Blackwell and
Hunter Hillyer to push the lead to 4-0. The Orange & Black would go on to tack on three more runs on a
Zach Feaster sacrifice fly and a two-run single by Henderson.
- West Alabama was finally able to break through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Justin Booker came through with an RBI groundout to cut the Warhawk lead to 7-1.
- AUM would answer right away with a three-run top of the third to extend the Warhawk lead to 10-1. Feaster and
Sage Smelley led off the inning with back-to-back singles which brought Henderson to the plate to knock in Smelley via a single through the right side of the infield. Zielonko would eventually come to bat with the bases loaded and came through with an RBI single, scoring Arrington. The three-run frame would come to a close with a
Jonathan Brandt sac fly that scored Henderson.
- AUM would go on to add two more runs in the fourth, courtesy of a Henderson RBI single, and a
Dalton Cobb double that scored Feaster. The single by Henderson was his team-leading fourth RBI of the afternoon.
- The Tigers would put together their most dangerous inning in the bottom of the sixth. UWA scored two runs on a two-run single by Wyatt Ball, and a Trevor Smeeton hit that ate up the Warhawk third basemen Smelley that scored a run.
- The two teams would trade runs in the seventh and eighth inning when Brandt came through with an RBI single that scored Zielonko in the seventh. Then in the bottom half of the next frame, Tigers catcher Hartman hit a solo shot off of
Connor Smith to bring the score to 13-5.
- West Alabama would not go down without a fight. Trailing 14-5 heading into the final frame, the Tigers would record four runs in the ninth off of Smith including a three-run home run by Hartman for his second of the game.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- AUM outhit West Alabama in the contest, 22-14.
- The Warhawk offense was able to come through with five two-out RBIs, while the Tigers were not able to come through with two outs.
- AUM was able to draw four walks against UWA, while the Tigers managed just three free passes.

- The Warhawks will now return home to the AUM Baseball Complex for a midweek matchup with GSC foe Alabama Huntsville. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will not be counted toward GSC play.
