CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball squad dropped a 73-60 decision to Lee University on Saturday evening at the Paul Dana Walker Arena in Gulf South Conference action, as all five starters for the Flames scored in double figures to slip past the visiting Warhawks.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 7-18 on the season with a 3-14 mark in the GSC.
• Lee improves to 13-12 overall with a 10-7 record in league play.
• With the victory the Flames secure a spot in the upcoming GSC Tournament.
• The Flames sweep the season series with the Warhawks, having earned a 74-56 victory on Nov. 29.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior forward
Aaron Reddick finished a rebound shy of his fifth double-double of the season, tallying 16 points and nine boards in the contest. Reddick has notched nine rebounds in nine contests this season. He also blocked four shots in the contest.
• Junior guard
Darrion Taylor scored a game-high 19 points for the Orange & Black, hitting three 3-pointers and connecting on 8-of-8 free throws. Taylor also had six assists and five steals in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first four minutes of the game saw Lee jump out to a 14-6 lead before
Kenneth Keith nailed a 3-pointer at the 15:44 mark to cut the Flames' advantage to five. A pair of layups by Reddick on AUM's next possessions cut the deficit to 14-13 two minutes later, but a 9-0 run by the Flames would give the home team a 23-13 lead with 10:59 to go in the first.
• Lee would push its lead to as much as 13 before AUM would pull to within 32-24 on an
EJ Card trey with 5:42 left in the frame. The Flames would once again push their advantage to 13 points before the Warhawks were able to close the gap the rest of the way, trailing 40-32 at the break.
• The Flames would score the first five points of the second half before Taylor would bury a deep three to curtail Lee's momentum. AUM would pull to with 45-39 over the next four minutes, cutting the deficit to six points with 15:33 to play on a
Carlos Bell jumper in the paint.
• A 14-4 run by Lee would give the home team a 59-43 advantage with 8:00 to play before
Stanley Davis would hit a trey to give his team a little momentum. An 8-0 run by the Warhawks capped off by another Davis 3-pointer pulled AUM to within 59-51 at the 6:01 mark.
• Lee would outscore the Warhawks 14-9 the rest of the way, securing the 13-point victory.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM was out-rebounded 37-30 in the contest.
• Lee outscored the Warhawks 32-20 in the paint.
• The Warhawks committed only nine turnovers to 13 committed by the Flames.
