CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Auburn University at Montgomery men's basketball fell to Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia on Thursday evening, dropping a 90-68 decision on the campus of the Wolves in league play.
NOTES
• AUM falls to 7-19 on the season with a 3-15 mark in the GSC.
• UWG improves to 16-10 overall with an 11-7 record in league action.
• The Wolves sweep the season series with the Warhawks, having earned a 98-89 victory last Thursday, Feb. 14.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior forward
Aaron Reddick led the team in scoring with 18 points. Reddick also tallied six rebounds and two blocks.
• Junior guard
Carlos Bell scored 16 to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 28 minutes of action.
• Junior forward
Mikel Davis tallied 13 points and a team-best eight rebounds in the contest, adding an assist to the boxscore as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first three minutes of the contest saw the team battle to a 5-5 tie with 16:53 to play in the first, before UWG went on an 8-0 run to take a 13-5 lead with 15:30 on the clock. The Warhawks outscored the Wolves 8-5 over the next three minutes to pull to within 17-13 on a pair of free throws by Bell, but UWG responded with a 10-4 run of their own to go up 27-17 with 10:38 to go in the first.
• The next five minutes saw the home squad go on another run, pushing their lead to 43-23 with 4:39 until the break. The two teams would trade points back and forth the rest of the way with each scoring 11 as UWG would take a 54-34 lead into the half.
• AUM would outscore the Wolves 13-4 over the first five minutes of the second, cutting the deficit to 58-45 on a Bell 3-pointer with 14:57 to go in the game. However, the Warhawks got stuck on 45 while the Wolves scored seven in a row to push their lead back to 20 points with 12:06 on the clock.
• After the runs by both teams, AUM and UWG would trade points back and forth the rest of the way as the Wolves kept the Orange & Black at arms' length throughout the rest of the contest to secure the 22-point win.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM was out-rebounded 35-30 in the contest.
• The Warhawks outscored UWG 40-34 in the paint.
• The Wolves hit 11 3-pointers in the contest.
