MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore pitcher
Michaelyn Foster tossed her first career no-hitter in Auburn Montgomery's 8-0 five-inning victory over former league foe Brewton-Parker College on Thursday evening, as the Warhawks improve to 5-0 overall on the season and 2-0 at the 2019 AUM Invitational.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 5-0 on the season.
• BPC falls to 2-2 overall
• The Warhawks now have run-ruled their third opponent in a row and their second on the day.
•The Orange & Black have outscored opponents 41-2 over their first five games.
• Foster's no-hitter was the first no-hitter the Warhawks have thrown since March 22 of last season when
Chanel Newcomer and
Cydney Sizemore combined for a no-no against Huntingdon College. It is also the first no-hitter by one pitcher since former Warhawk Taylor Powell blanked Webber International in the NAIA National Tournament on May 28, 2016.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Foster faced 16 batters and narrowly missed out on a perfect game, as a first inning fielding error by the Warhawks allowed BPC's only base runner of the day. She struck out three, forcing four consecutive 3-up-3-down innings.
• Shortstop
Olivia Aycock went 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored. She also tallied two putouts and an assist.
•
Parker Pinholster hit her first home run of the season and the sixth of her career in the bottom of the first. On the day she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• For the fifth time this season the Warhawks scored first, with Pinholster doing the honors with her solo shot to left with two outs to give the home team a 1-0 advantage in the first.
• AUM scratched another run across in the bottom of the second, scoring when
Hannah Dailey got caught in a rundown at first base with
Jasmine Thompson at third. While Dailey was keeping the Barons defense busy, Thompson advanced home on the play. After two complete the Warhawks led 2-0.
• Second baseman
Gracie Harris led off the fourth with a triple, then was brought home by a
Brooke Perrigin pinch-hit single to left. Later in the inning with Dailey on first and Thompson at third once again, Dailey would steal second and Thompson would head for home on the throw to put the home team up 4-0 after four.
• In the bottom of the fifth Aycock and Pinholster each hit a single to give AUM runners at first and second.
Morgan Duschell laid down a sacrifice bunt which turned into a throwing error by the pitcher, allowing Duschell to advance to third and Aycock and Pinholster to score. Harris would lay down a sac bunt to score Duschell from third and give AUM a 7-0 lead.
Abby Krueger would draw a walk and be pinch-run for by
Tatiana Ervin, who would steal second. After a Thompson ground out to second advanced Ervin to third,
Kendall Tucker would hit a sharp single through the left side to plate Ervin and give the Warhawks an 8-0 advantage in the fifth, ending the contest.
