MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team exploded for 17 runs on 12 hits in the Warhawks' 17-2 victory over Montreat College on Friday morning at the 2019 AUM Invitational, as the Warhawks have now won their last four contests in five innings.
NOTES
• AUM improves to 6-0 on the season.
• The Cavaliers fall to 1-4 overall.
•The Orange & Black have outscored opponents 58-4 over their first five games.
• The Warhawks are now 3-0 against MC lifetime.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Designated player
Jaycie Walker was 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs scored from the leadoff position, hitting her first home run of the season.
• Centerfielder
Parker Pinholster was 1-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored, belting her second home run of the season in the contest.
• Second baseman
Michaelyn Foster was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored with a double.
• Freshman pitcher
Jade Ingram was credited with the victory in a relief appearance to improve to 1-0 on the season. Ingram allowed one run on one hit with a strikeout in 2.0 innings of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Warhawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first plating three runs in the frame. With the bases loaded a wild pitch by MC allowed Walker to score from third, followed by a sacrifice bunt by
Morgan Duschell to plate
Olivia Aycock and advance Pinholster to third, then
Gracie Harris hit a sac fly to left to score Pinholster.
• An AUM error with the bases loaded allowed the Cavaliers' Kelsey Nolasco to score from third and cut the MC deficit to 3-1 in the top of the second.
• After
Kendall Tucker drew a walk to start of the bottom of the second, Walker belted her first dinger of the season to put the Orange & Black up 5-0. Aycock then singled and stole second to get into scoring position for Duschell, who delivered a double to left-center to plate Aycock and increase AUM's lead to 6-0. Harris then picked up her second RBI of the day when she singled to right to plate Duschell.
• Leading 7-1 in the bottom of the third with runners at first and second, freshman
Caris Wright hit a pinch hit single which scored a run and advanced another to third. Pinholster then came in a blasted a 3-run shot to left to give the Warhawks an 11-1 advantage.
• The top of the fourth saw Montreat's Victoria Hill blast a solo shot that bounced off the outfield fence in center field as it exited to cut the AUM lead to 11-2.
• AUM would respond with six runs in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases for Foster who delivered a double to left to score a pair of runs. The bases were loaded on the next batter when
Caroline Burns was hit by a pitch, setting up Walker who delivered an infield single to score another run. With the bases still loaded Pinholster drew a walk to score Burns, followed by a
Tatiana Ervin Walk that scored Walker.
Kasidy Thompson then hit an infield single to score Aycock and put the home team up 17-2.
• Montreat would go 3-up-3-down in the top of the fifth as the Warhawks were able to win their sixth contest in a row to start the season.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• AUM scored 17 runs on 12 hits while committing two errors.
• MC scored two runs on three hits while committing one error.
• The Warhawks stole two bases in the contest.
• Today marked the first time this season that AUM has had two home runs in a contest.
