MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Leading 2-0 after four innings against Gulf South Conference rival the University of Montevallo the Auburn University at Montgomery softball team exploded for six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to earn an 8-0 six-inning victory after in league play at the AUM Softball Complex on Friday evening.
NOTES
• AUM improved to 16-4 on the season with a 3-4 mark in league games.
• UM falls to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in the GSC.
• The Warhawks are now 11-3 at home while the Falcons are 3-1 in road games.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Junior pitcher
Chanel Newcomer improved to 4-2 on the season, throwing a two-hit shutout against the Falcons. Newcomer went 6.0 innings with seven walks and two strikeouts.
• Junior infielder
Caroline Burns drove in three runs for the Orange & Black, blasting a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.
• Sophomore outfielder
Morgan Duschell went 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After shutting out the Falcons in the top of the first the Warhawks loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the frame. It was then that
Abby Krueger's sacrifice bunt attempt was caught by a diving Holly LaForce at third base which turned into a double play after she threw back to third to catch AUM off the bag.
• In the bottom of the second AUM was able to scratch a run across, with
Hannah Dailey scoring from second on a Duschell double down the leftfield line to put the home squad up 1-0.
• With two outs in the bottom of the fourth and Duschell at first,
Jaycie Walker hit her first triple of the season to plate Duschell all the way from first and double the Warhawk advantage at 2-0.

Parker Pinholster would lead off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and then would steal second. Krueger would get the sac bunt down this time to advance Pinholster to third.
Michaelyn Foster then hit sharp ground ball to the shortstop who tried to throw Pinholster out at home, but the speedy Pinholster was able to slide under the tag. Burns would then hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot to left center to score Foster from first.
• While still in the fifth AUM would get runners at second and third with two outs to set up
Olivia Aycock, who singled down the leftfield line to put AUM up 6-0.
• The Warhawks would hold UM scoreless in the top of the sixth, and loaded the bases with one out in their half of the frame. Burns grounded out to short but scored a run on the play to pick up her third RBI of the day. Dailey then hit chopper to left that scored Pinholster, giving the home team an 8-0 lead that ended the contest via the NCAA run rule.
