MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team completed a 3-game sweep of Gulf South Conference foe the University of Montevallo in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, taking game two of the series 6-1 before closing out the day with a 3-2 victory in game three in league play.
NOTES
• AUM improved to 18-4 on the season with a 5-4 mark in league games.
• UM falls to 13-9 overall and 4-5 in the GSC.
• The Warhawks are now 13-3 at home while the Falcons are 3-3 in road games.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore utility player
Michaelyn Foster (8-1) picked up the win in game one allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts over 6.0 innings pitched. Foster then picked up her first save of the season in game two, entering the contest with two runners on base and nobody out, forcing two ground outs and a fly out to close out the game.
• Freshman shortstop
Olivia Aycock went 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored, a run batted in, a walk and a stolen base.
• Junior slugger
Jaycie Walker went 2-for-6 on the day with three runs scored, two RBI, two walks, a double and a home run, her fifth of the season.
• Freshman pitcher
Savanna Holmes picked up her first win of the season in game two to improve to 1-0 on the season, allowing one run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Holmes also pitched a shutout inning of relief in game one to close out the win for Foster.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
• AUM drew first blood in the bottom of the first by getting runners at second and third with one out. A ground out by catcher
Abby Krueger scored
Hannah Dailey from third to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
• Walker led off the third with a double down the rightfield line and then advanced to third on a ground out. Krueger then singled through the left side of the infield to plate Walker from third and put the Warhawks up 2-0.
• With runners at first and second
Parker Pinholster doubled to left-center to drive in one run and advance another to third to set up Krueger, who picked up her third RBI of the day with a sac bunt that scored Aycock.
• The Falcons got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring on a Lady Sarah Federico single to right with a runner at second to put the visitors on the board.
• The Warhawks added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Duschell hit her second triple of the season to drive in
Jasmine Thompson from second. Duschell was then brought home on an Aycock single to centerfield to put the Orange & Black up 6-1.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE – GAME ONE
• The Warhawks scored six runs on eight hits with two errors.
• UM scored one run on four hits with one error.
• AUM stole two bases in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
• Game two was a pitchers' dual between Holmes and Montevallo's Mychael McMillan, with neither team getting a runner past second base over the first four innings.
• AUM was able to put up a crooked number in the bottom of the fifth, with
Jasmine Thompson driving in the game's first run with a triple to right with a runner on first to put AUM up 1-0. Walker then hit a high fly ball that carried over the left field wall to give the home squad a 3-0 advantage with her two-run shot.
• Montevallo threatened in the top of the sixth, getting a pair of singles with one out and then scoring on a Holly LaForce single to right right to get the visitors on the board. After a sac bunt by Brooke Ingram Holmes was able to strike out the next batter to end the frame.
• The top of the seventh saw UM's Marisa Sosa lead off the inning with a solo homer to left to cut the AUM advantage in half at 3-2. A pair of singles later had Falcons at first and second with nobody out and the home team clinging to a one-run lead. Foster then moved from second base into the circle and forced a fielder's choice ground out which got the lead runner heading to third, a fly out to center field followed by a fielder's choice force out at third to end the game.

• The Warhawks scored three runs on four hits with one error.
• Montevallo scored two runs on seven hits with no errors.
• The two teams combined for nine strikeouts.
