Quality Start From Flowers, Four-Run Seventh Inning Lifts Baseball to 7-2 Win at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- Senior Josh Flowers allowed just two earned runs over a career-high seven innings on the mound, while the Auburn Montgomery offense broke open the ballgame with a four-run seventh inning to help lift the Warhawks to a 7-2 victory at Flagler College on Wednesday, March 13.

NOTES
- With the win, AUM improves to 13-9 on the season.
- Three of the Warhawk's seven runs came with two outs.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Jonathan Brandt led AUM at the dish, with his second three-hit performance of the season. The senior shortstop also drove in a pair and scored a run.
- Zach Feaster knocked a pair of hits, for his fifth multi-hit game of 2019. Feaster also drove in a run and threw out a Flagler base runner behind the plate.
- Matthew Zielonko also drove in a pair of runs for the Orange and Black, in addition to scoring a run and logging a base hit.
- Quinterrious Arrington scored a game-high two runs and swiped a game-high two bases, pushing his season total to a GSC-best 18. Arrington also accounted for a base hit and two walks.
- Zach Cumbie recorded a run and a hit, while Dalton Cobb added a run and Sage Smelley added a run and an RBI.
- Flowers (1-1) earned the win on the mound for the Warhawks, scattering seven hits over seven innings, while striking out three and walking just two.
- Brett Lightsey tossed the final two frames of the game, striking out one and allowing just one hit to seal the deal on the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Flagler got on the scoreboard first in inning number one, when the Saints would use timely hitting to take a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI double.
- After seeing the Saints double their lead to 2-0 with a solo shot in the third inning, the Warhawks would respond with a run in their next at-bat in the top of the fourth. Feaster would knock a double down the left-field line in the inning to plate Smelley and trim AUM's deficit to 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
- AUM would once again come up with a timely two-out hit, this time in the fifth inning when Zielonko would give the Warhawks a 3-2 lead on a base knock through the right side to plate Cumbie and Arrington.
- The seventh inning for the Warhawks began with walks by Arrington, Cobb and Zielonko to load the bases for Brandt, who would bring home a pair with a double down the right field line to put AUM up 5-2. Smelley would plate Zielonko one batter later on a suicide-squeeze bunt, and Brandt would take home on a delayed double steal to put AUM up 7-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
- The Saints came their closest to scoring again in the seventh inning, when they would load the bases with two away. AUM would escape the inning unharmed, however, after recording a 2-5-2-5-1-6 caught stealing to end the inning.
