MONTGOMERY, Ala – After spending the previous four matches on the road, the Auburn University at Montgomery men's tennis team will return home for three consecutive matches including a contest with Gulf South Conference foe Alabama Huntsville.
About the Warhawks
The Warhawks (4-4) have not had a home match since March 6, a 6-1 loss to #2 and defending champion Columbus State. AUM had played four-straight matches in San Antonio over spring break and had a record of 2-2.
Alvaro Terron has earned more responsibility from head coach
Yair Banuelos. Terron has seen time in both the number one and two positions for AUM and has a record of 3-3. Terron, however, has struggled in doubles play, netting a record of 1-4.
Eban Straker-Meads will look to continue his impressive start to the season for the Warhawks. Straker-Meads will head into the week with a record of 5-3 in singles play, including a 2-1 mark in the first slot.
Men's tennis will look to improve on their doubles record this season. Heading into the busy schedule, the pairing of
Francisco Jimenez and
Santiago Veglia are tied with
Jose Garcia, and
Marcus Lind for the team lead in wins with two.
About the Muleriders
Southern Arkansas (14-2) will look to extend their ten-match winning streak when they head to Montgomery on Tuesday afternoon. The Muleriders have been receiving votes in the latest ITA national poll.
Southern Arkansas has won 14 of their first 16 matches to start 2019, including an undefeated record (7-0) at home. The Muleriders will head into their match with the Warhawks having played one other road match.
The match with Southern Arkansas is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on aumathletics.com
About the Hilltoppers
St. Edward's (10-4) will head into their match with the Warhawks winners of nine of their last 10 matches, including a victory over #7 the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Away from home, the Hilltoppers are 2-1 in 2019.
The top player for the Hilltoppers has been Anish Sriniketh. He has a record of 9-2 in 2019, with seven of those wins coming in the first slot for St. Edward's. He has, however, struggled in doubles play this season, netting an even 5-5 record.
The match with the Hilltoppers is scheduled to begin Friday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the AUM Tennis Complex.
About the Chargers
Alabama Huntsville (4-4) will play three matches before their date with the Warhawks on Saturday afternoon, including matches against St. Edward's and Southern Arkansas.
UAH has fared much better on the road than in Huntsville, netting a 3-2 record on the road while sporting a 1-2 record at home. After winning two matches in a row against Southern Indiana and Bellarmine, the Chargers have lost three-straight matches to GSC opponents Mississippi College, Delta State, and Valdosta State.
Alabama Huntsville has struggled in singles competition this season, earning a record of 24-22 and has a losing record as a team in the one and three slot. Doubles play has been better for UAH, the Chargers have a team record of 14-8 in 2019.
The conference battle with the Chargers is scheduled to begin on Saturday at noon and will be the first GSC match for the Warhawks since February 22.
