VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team dropped game one of their three-game Gulf South Conference series 18-2 to the Blazers of Valdosta State on Friday, March 29.
NOTES
- With the loss, AUM's record drops to 16-15 overall and 7-9 in GSC action.
- The Warhawks used a season-high eight different pitchers in the setback.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Dalton Cobb led AUM at the dish, with a game-high two hits and a run driven in. Cobb launched his second home run of the season for the Warhawks in the seventh inning.

Zach Feaster accounted for a hit and an RBI, while
Hayden Friesen registered a hit and a run scored.

Quinterrious Arrington and
Sage Smelley both added a hit.

Ryan Burkett and
Aaron Hill both allowed just one earned in relief for AUM. R. Burkett struck out one over 1.1 innings, while Hill struck out one in 0.2 innings of action.

Hunter Hillyer made his 2019 debut on the mound for AUM, giving up two earned over the final inning in the ballgame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Valdosta State plated eight runs over their first two at-bats, with four runs in both the first and second innings.
- After seeing the Blazers score their first four runs in the game, AUM would answer back with a run in the top of the second. Friesen led off the inning with a single through the left side, followed by a walk from
Jonathan Brandt, a sac bunt by Cobb, and an RBI groundout to short by Feaster to trim AUM's deficit to 4-1.
- After putting up one run in the third and a pair in the fourth, the Blazers would break out for five runs in inning number five to lead 16-1. VSU sent 11 batters to the plate in the frame, and knocked five base hits.
- After seeing Valdosta State add a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, AUM would tally their second and final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, courtesy of Cobb's home run to left center.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The 18 runs given up by Warhawk pitching marked for a season high, with all 18 counting as earned runs.
- AUM left just four runners on base in the game, while the pitching staff stranded 11 Blazer base runners.
