VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team dropped games two and three of their three-game Gulf South Conference series at Valdosta State University on Saturday, March 30.
NOTES
- AUM dropped game one 12-4, and fell 9-7 in game number two.
- With the losses, AUM's record now sits at 16-17 overall, and 7-11 in GSC action.
STANDOUT PERFOMERS

Quinterrious Arrington,
Hayden Friesen, and
Matthew Zielonko all logged a team-high three hits over the course of the day for AUM. All three added an RBI on the day, while Arrington and Friesen both scored a pair of runs.

Jonathan Brandt and
Casey Henderson both drove in a team-high three runs on the day, with C. Henderson picking up two hits in game two.

Dalton Cobb accounted for two base hits, two runs scored and an RBI on the day, while
Sage Smelley scored a team-high three runs on the day on one base hit.

Brett Lightsey (2-1) took the loss on the mound in game one, surrendering four earned over three innings while striking out one.

Todd Burkett (2-1) shouldered the loss for the Warhawks in game number two. The senior right-hander tossed a team-high 3.1 innings of work on the day, while striking out one and allowing nine earned.

Harrison Morris and
Ryan Burkett combined to toss the final 2.2 innings of work for AUM in game two, giving up just two hits and surrendering no runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- The Warhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at bat of the game. Zielonko plated the game's first run on an RBI single to right center, followed by an RBI groundout by Brandt and a wild pitch that plated Zielonko.
- Valdosta State would respond in their first at-bat of the game, however, with three runs on three hits to even the game at three-all.
- The Blazers would go on to add one run in the third, one in the fourth and a pair in the fifth to lead 7-3 before AUM would crack the scoreboard again in the top of the sixth. The Warhawks got an RBI single from Cobb to plate Smelley and make it 7-4. Smelley reached base to start the frame on a walk.
- The Blazers would respond, however, with a run in the sixth, and a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings to give way to the 12-4 final.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME ONE
- The Warhawks were outhit by the Blazers, 19-6, making for the second-highest hit total allotted by the AUM pitching staff in 2019.
- AUM did not commit an error in game one.
- The Warhawks left 10 runners on base in game one, while the pitching staff stranded nine Blazer base runners.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- The Warhawks were once again able to get on the board first in game two, this time putting up a two-spot to lead 2-0 after one at-bat. A
Grayson Blackwell single and a Brandt RBI sacrifice fly accounted for the damage done in the inning.
- Valdosta State would notch their first run of the game in the second, however, the Warhawks would add two more runs in the third. C. Henderson accounted for the big blow in the inning, with a two-out, two-RBI knock to left to plate a pair of runs and put AUM up 4-1.
- Valdosta State would break out for eight runs in the top of the fourth, to take the lead at 9-4. The Blazers sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning, and picked up six base hits.
- After tacking on a run in the fifth inning to make it 9-5, the Warhawks would go into full rally mode in their last at-bat in the seventh. Friesen plated the frame's first run on a double down the left field line to bring home Cobb, who reached base via hit by pitch to start off the inning. Friesen would come around to score one batter later on a VSU fielding error to make the score 9-7.
- The Warhawks would get the tying run to second base, and the go-ahead run into the batter's box with two away in the inning, but would ground out to third to end the game.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME TWO
- AUM outhit Valdosta State in game two, 11-10.
- Four different Warhawks logged multi-hit efforts in game two, while two different players scored multiple runs.
- The Warhawks went 8-22 (.364) with runners on in the game, and reached base to lead off an inning in four of seven frames.
- AUM left 11 runners on base in game two, while the pitching staff stranded seven VSU base runners.

- The Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 2 when they take on Alabama Huntsville in Huntsville, Ala. at 4:00 p.m.
