MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team fell to nationally ranked Columbus State Wednesday afternoon at the AUM Tennis Complex, falling 6-1 to the #6 Cougars in non-conference play.
MATCH NOTES
- The Warhawks fall to 3-4 on the season.
- Columbus State raises their record to 7-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Svenja Petri was once again tasked to anchor the number one position for the Warhawks, she came into her match with Cougars sophomore Marleen Tilgner with a record of 2-3 but fell to Tilgner 6-1, 6-3.

Sofia Navarro was matched up in the second slot with Columbus State's Beatriz Lopez. Navarro was able to stay with Lopez in the first game, falling by a score of 6-4. Lopez, however, was able to prevail in the second set 6-2, stealing a point away from Navarro and the Warhawks.

Tonja Foessmeier was able to once again come through for the Warhawks, earning AUM's lone singles point. In a back-and-forth affair, Foessemier was able to take set one 7-5. Columbus State sophomore Candice Paya was able to recover with a 6-2 victory in set 2, before inevitably falling to Foessemier 10-6 in the final set.

Alba De la Torre and Luise Sachs had one of the closes matches on Wednesday afternoon, with Sachs taking both sets 6-4, 6-3 to steal a point from the fourth position.

Julia Enderink tried to rebound from dropping her first set to Natalia Kattah Paz 6-1, with a tightly contested second set. However, her efforts came up short, falling to Kattah Paz 7-5.
- Noa Davico was able to secure the fifth singles point for Columbus State, defeating AUM's
Sofia Mustre 6-2, 6-2.
- The Warhawks got off to a flying start in doubles play with Enderink and Navarro defeating Tilgner and Lopez 6-1 in the number one slot. With the win, Enderink and Navarro improve to 3-4 on the year.
- Petri and De La Torre were assigned to the two slot for the Warhawks and were paired against Davico and Sachs. The Cougars were able to nab a point away from the two Warhawks, defeated Petri and De La Torre 6-1.
- In a deciding third doubles match, the Warhawks sent Mustre and Foessmeier to face Paya and Kattah Paz for an extra point. However, it was Columbus State that came out on top, besting AUM 6-3.

UP NEXT
The Warhawks will conclude their three-game week when they travel to Jackson, Miss., to take on Division I opponent Jackson State. This dual match with the men's teams will begin at 2 p.m.
