Warhawks Welcome West Georgia For GSC Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team will host Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia this weekend in a three-game series set to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday evening at the AUM Softball Complex. The Warhawks are coming off of a series sweep of GSC foe Shorter this past week, and will look win their sixth conference series in a row when they face off with the Wolves.

About the Warhawks
The Warhawks are 34-9 on the season with a 14-7 mark in the GSC. AUM is currently third in the Gulf South standings. The Orange & Black are also 15-5 at home, 12-4 on the road and 7-0 in neutral site games. AUM is also 5-5 against Top-25 teams this season, taking 2-1 series victories over #16 Valdosta State and #21 Mississippi College in league play.
 
As a team the Warhawks leads the GSC in stolen bases with 149, are second in the league in runs with 274, fourth in runs batted in with 224, fourth in home runs with 32, and sixth in batting average with a mark of .298.
 
Freshman Shortstop Olivia Aycock has been busy offensively and defensively this season, leading the team and the GSC in stolen bases with 40. Aycock set the new single season record for stolen bases in a season against Shorter on April 5, breaking the old mark of 37 set be fellow Warhawk Parker Pinholster in 2017.
 
Aycock also leads the team in batting average with a mark of .390, hits with 48 and runs scored with 44. She is also fielding a .950 average, having started every game this season at shortstop.
 
Junior slugger Jaycie Walker leads the team and is second in the league in home runs with 11 this season, while also leading the team in doubles with 14. Walker moved into second place all-time in AUM history in doubles against Shorter on April 5, hitting her 40th career two-bagger. Walker passed former Warhawk Katie Spain who notched 39 for her career. She now sits at 41 career doubles, trailing only Brandi Richards who tallied 46 doubles during her career with the Orange & Black.  
 
Junior pitcher Chanel Newcomer moved up to fourth place all-time in strikeouts this season, having amassed 216 for her career to pass former Warhawk Rachel Ragland (204). Newcomer is currently second on the team in K's with 53, trailing freshman Savanna Holmes' 60 strikeouts on the season. Sophomore Michaelyn Foster leads the team in wins with a record of 12-3 this season.
 
AUM is 2-1 lifetime against UWG, losing the first meeting between the two schools last season before taking the next two to close out the series.
 
About the Wolves
West Georgia is 21-22 on the season with a 7-14 mark in the GSC and a 6-11 record in away games. The Wolves are coming off of a 2-1 series victory over Lee University this past weekend, falling in game one 7-6 before taking game two 5-2 and game three 21-5 (five innings).
 
UWG is led offensively by Hannah Scarbrough, who tops the team in batting average (.346), hits (46), runs scored (25), doubles (13) and total bases (62). She is also 14-14 in stolen bases, but is second on the team to Alley Taylor who has 16 steals this year.
 
Katie Foote leads the UWG pitching staff with a record of 7-5. Fellow hurler Morgan Goree leads the team in K's with 70, which is also ninth in the GSC.
