MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team slugged an NCAA-Era Record four home runs, while starter
Micah Henderson hurled six shutout innings, as the Warhawks knocked off the Badgers of Spring Hill College 8-0 on Tuesday, April 16 from the AUM Baseball Complex.
NOTES
- With the win, AUM's record improves to 22-20 on the year, and 47-19 all-time against Spring Hill College.
- Tuesday's win marked for the Warhawk's second shutout victory of the season.
- The Warhawk's four-homer performance marks for the first time that the Orange and Black have hit four home runs in a game since the 2014 season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
-
Dalton Cobb led AUM at the plate, with a two home run, three-RBI day. Cobb's two-homer performance, which upped his season total to five, marks for the first multi-homer game from a Warhawk since the 2014 season.
-
Jonathan Brandt and
Sage Smelley both also went yard in the game, with Brandt launching a solo shot, and Smelley connecting for a two-run bomb. Brandt also scored twice.
-
Quinterrious Arrington added a hit, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Arrington's 2019 stolen base total now sits at 32, good enough for seventh all-time in program history in a single year.
- M. Henderson (3-2) kept the Badgers at bay for all six innings of his outing, while striking out four and throwing just 76 pitches.
-
Sam Steigert and
Josh Flowers combined to toss the game's final three innings, while surrendering just one hit and striking out three a piece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawk's first runs of the game came courtesy of Cobb's towering two-run blast to left field in the second inning. Brandt walked and stole second one batter prior to the one-out homer.
- AUM would go on to add two more runs over their next two at-bats, taking advantage of a Spring Hill throwing error to cross the plate in the third, and Brandt's leadoff solo shot in inning number four to lead 4-0.
- Cobb would go on to smash his second home-run of the day with two away in the sixth, giving AUM a 5-0 advantage.
- The Warhawks would go on to get three more runs in the seventh, courtesy of Smelley's two-run jack with nobody out, and Arrington crossing the plate on a Badger throwing error.
