Aycock Sets Stolen Base Record In Warhawks Victory Over Shorter

ROME, Ga. – Freshman shortstop Olivia Aycock set the new single season record for stolen bases at Auburn University at Montgomery in the Warhawks' 3-1 victory over Gulf South Conference foe Shorter University on Saturday afternoon, as fellow freshman Savanna Holmes pitched a complete game two-hitter for AUM.

NOTES
- AUM improves to 32-9 on the season with a 12-7 mark in the GSC.
- Shorter falls to 15-22 overall and 8-13 in league play.
- Aycock needed just one stolen base to break the old record of 37, but wound up stealing two. She now stands at 39 for the season, passing teammate Parker Pinholster who set the record in her freshman season of 2017. Pinholster holds the career record for stolen bases with 89 and counting.
- Junior slugger Jaycie Walker moved into second place all time in career doubles with her 40th career two-bagger against the Hawks today. Walker passed former Warhawk Katie Spain who collected 39 over her career.
- AUM is now 10-4 lifetime against the Hawks, having won all four games the two have played as members of the GSC.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Aycock went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and two stolen bases.
- Holmes improved to 4-2 on the season from the circle allowing only one run (unearned) on two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
- Sophomore Michaeylyn Foster went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
- Walker went 2-for-2 on the day with a pair of walks and a run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AUM loaded the bases in the top of the first, but Shorter was able to get out of the jam to escape the frame unscathed. The Warhawks got a runner to third in the top of the second but the visitors were unable to scratch a run across to strand one more runner in scoring position.
- The Orange & Black would break through in the top of the third when Morgan Duschell hit an infield single to reach first. Walker then hit a double to left to push Duschell to third and give the Warhawks runners at second and third. Foster then delivered sacrifice bunt which plated Duschell and put AUM up 1-0.
- A pair of errors helped load the bases for Shorter in the bottom of the fourth, and the home team was able to tie the game on a ground out to the pitcher to even the contest at 1-1.
- The Warhawks would load the bases in the top of the fifth for Foster who delivered a single to center to plate Aycock from third. After five complete AUM led 2-1.
- AUM would get an insurance run in the top of the seventh when catcher Abby Krueger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Walker from third and put the Warhawks up 3-1. Holmes would then close out the game in the bottom of the frame posting strikeouts for the first and third out of the inning to secure the victory.
