MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn University at Montgomery Director of Athletics
Jessie Rosa has announced that Amber Rae Childers will be taking over as Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations with the Warhawks beginning in early September. Childers replaces current Assistant AD/SWA Andreè Houston who will be leaving at the end of August to join her husband Victor in Columbus, Ohio, where he serves as an assistant coach with the Ohio State University Track & Field program.
"It is no secret that Andreè played a crucial role in our transition from the NAIA to NCAA," said Rosa. "I cannot thank her enough for the dedication and hard work that she put in on behalf of our student-athletes and coaches over the last five years. Although she will be missed, we are incredibly happy for her and her family as they start a new chapter in their lives."
Houston joined the Warhawks' staff in September of 2014 from Texas Tech University where she served as a tutorial coordinator and senior counselor for the Red Raiders softball and volleyball teams.
Childers joins the Orange & Black from Utah State where she currently serves as an Assistant AD for Student-Athlete Services with the Aggies. She currently oversees the Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) unit including staff oversight of certification for student-athlete eligibility, coordination of the Whitesides Scholar-Athlete awards luncheon and USTARS Awards banquet, and serves as summer school athletics aid coordinator.
"This was a critical hire for us as we move into our first year of NCAA Division II Active Membership," added Rosa. "Amber's experience in critical areas of compliance paired with her passion for student-athletes, is what stood out to me as we moved through the search process. I look forward to growth within our department as she joins our staff."
Childers began her career with the Aggies in August of 2010 working as an Academic/Life Skills Coordinator before becoming an Assistant Director in July of 2014. In June of 2016 she was promoted to her current role with Utah State and was named the Interim SAAS Director in April of this year.
She is responsible for direct academic support of student-athletes of multiple teams and oversees documentation, processing and reporting of initial and continuing progress towards degree eligibility. She also serves as a member of the Utah State Athletics Executive Staff, Senior Staff, External Leadership Team, Athletics Council Gender & Minority Subcommittee, and the Student-Athlete Wellness Team.
From 2009-10 Childers served as an Assistant Academic Coordinator at North Carolina State University, providing academic support, coordinating the Academic Skills Enhancement Program and teaching courses to support first year students in college transition and degree/career exploration.
This will not be Childers first time working for AUM, as she spent the 2008-09 academic year serving as an intern with the Athletics Department.
A 2008 graduate of Carroll College, Childers earned her master's degree from the University of Washington in 2009.
