How it Happened
- After a barrage of early chances by the Warhawks, the Wolves were able to find Heyaime in behind the AUM defense to score the game's first goal. Heyaime took the ball from the left side of the penalty area and slotted the ball into the upper right portion of the net.
- After the Wolves midfield played a ball into the box, the ball incidentally hit the hand of freshman defender
Helena Torres which resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for Newberry. Heyaime took the kick from the spot and slotted past Kistler to give the Wolves a two-goal lead
- AUM continued the offensive assault despite being down two goals and entered halftime out-shooting Newberry 16-7.
- The second half opened with an exclamation point when Mendez found herself standing over a free-kick just a few feet outside the penalty area. Mendez then curled the ball around the wall of Wolves to find the upper right of the net.
- The match then encountered some deja vu when a Warhawk ball was played in the Newberry penalty area. The ball then hit a Wolves defender's hand, resulting in a penalty kick. Like Heyaime, Mendez stepped up and slotted the ball past the keeper to tie the game at two.
- With both teams on the offensive, Newberry was able to break through and regain the lead in the 72' when Vanessa Baird played a ball from Jacqueline Aldrete and placed the ball into the back of the net.
- Despite the Warhawks' best efforts to even the score again, Heyaime found herself past the AUM defense after receiving a pass from Emma Harms. She was able to convert the shot for a goal to complete her three-goal afternoon.
