JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team came up just one point short at Union University on Thursday, Jan. 9, falling 63-62 to the Bulldogs in Gulf South Conference play.

NOTEWORTHY
- With the loss, AUM's record falls to 6-9 on the year, and 1-6 in GSC action.
- The Warhawks' last three losses have come by a combined six points total.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Carlos Bell logged his third double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 24 points and hauling in a game-high 10 rebounds. Bell also knocked down a season-high four three-pointers in the setback.
- Maharrith Jackson accounted for 12 points and six rebounds, while Jeremiah Bozeman recorded 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.
- Stanley Davis added seven points, while Aaron Reddick grabbed seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struggled to get things going on offense early, as the Bulldogs would lead 7-2 at the 16:00 mark in the first.
- After seeing the Bulldogs go up 10-4 at the 14:17 mark, AUM would kick start their offense with an 11-5 run to tie the game up at 15-15 with 8:58 to play in the half.
- The two teams stayed within two points of each other until the Bulldogs went on a quick 5-0 run from the 5:27 to the 3:55 mark to lead 26-21.
- The Warhawks would counter with eight unanswered points, with a Jackson corner three-pointer capping off the run, to give them their largest lead of the half at 29-26 with 2:03 left until intermission. Union would go on to score the half's final four points to lead 30-29 at the break.
- The Bulldogs scored the second half's first four points, but the Warhawks responded with an 11-0 run over a three-minute period to lead 40-34 with 15:59 to go.
- After a rebuttal from Union, the Warhawks would get a pair of key threes from Bell over their next few possessions to give them their largest lead of the game at 48-41 with 12:35 to play.
- Union would answer though, with a 10-3 run over the next four minutes and change to tie the game at 51-all with 7:57 left. The Bulldogs would follow up with seven of the game's next eight points to lead 58-52 with 4:11 to play.
- The Warhawks continued to fight, however, as they would inch closer and get a pair of clutch lay-ups from Bell to bring their deficit to 60-58 with 2:15 to go, and 61-60 at the 1:53 mark.
- After a pair of Bell free throws made the score 63-62 in favor of Union with 47 seconds left, the Warhawks would get a huge stop on defense to setup a potential game-winning basket on their next possession. Jackson's fade-away jumper in the final seconds would clank off the back iron though, and seal the victory for Union.
