Warhawks Outduel Shorter in Road Shootout, 99-91

ROME, Ga. --- Seniors Carlos Bell and Joshua Moore combined for 45 points as the Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team matched a season-high in points scored in their 99-91 Gulf South Conference win at Shorter University on Thursday, Feb. 13. 
 
NOTEWORTHY
- With the win, AUM has now secured victories in three of their last four and sits 12-11 overall and 7-8 in GSC play. 
- The Orange and Black now hold an all-time record of 26-4 over Shorter, including wins in their last five meetings with the Hawks.
- The Warhawks tallied 90 points for the second-straight game and for the fifth time this season while matching their season-high of 99 points scored for the third game in 2019-20.
- All nine players that took the court for AUM in the game scored at least three points.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Carlos Bell logged his sixth double-double of the season, with a team-high 25 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a 10-13 shooting night from the free-throw line. Bell has scored double-digit points for AUM in his last 11 games. 
- Joshua Moore recorded a career-high 20 points on a 9-16 shooting night, while also pulling down six rebounds. 
- Maharrith Jackson scored 11 points while hauling in four boards.
- Jeremiah Bozeman added nine points and seven rebounds, while Jalen Taylor dished out a career-high four assists and scored eight points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shorter came out firing on all cylinders, sinking their first four shots from the field to lead 11-3 at the 18:00 mark and knocking down seven of their first nine shots to lead 18-11 with 15:20 to go in the first. 
- The Warhawks answered back by knotting the score up at 26-all at the 9:22 mark on a pair of free throws by Bozeman to cap off a 15-8 scoring run over a six-minute period.
- After going back and forth for the next five minutes, Shorter would go up by five at 42-37 with 4:30 to until halftime. AUM would outscore the Hawks 11-5 over the final four and half minutes, however, to take a 48-47 lead into the break.
- The Warhawks opened up half number two by knocking down eight of nine shots and outscoring Shorter 18-4 to lead 66-51 with 15:51 left. 
- Shorter would respond over the next eight minutes of game time, however, with a 21-9 scoring run to cut AUM's lead to 75-72 with 7:48 to play. 
- Shorter would go back on top 79-78 with 5:22 to go, but the Warhawks would answer by knocking down their next four shots and scoring 10 unanswered to go up 88-79 with 2:48 left. Eight of AUM's 10 points in that time period came from Bell.
- Shorter got back to within seven points at 92-85 with 58 seconds left, but AUM used clutch free-throw shooting over the final minute to seal the deal for a 99-91 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Warhawks shot 45 percent (16-35) in half number one and 59 percent (19-32) in the second half to finish at 52 percent (35-67) for the night.
- AUM scored a season-high 56 points in the paint, marking for the second time this season that the Warhawks amassed 50-plus points down low.
- The Orange and Black additionally registered a season-high in fast-break points (32) and points off of turnovers (23).
- The Warhawks knocked down 20 free throws for the fourth time this season, going 23-31 from the charity stripe.  
- AUM out-rebounded Shorter on the night, 37-26.
- Thursday's game featured 14 lead changes and six tied scores.

- The Warhawks face a quick turnaround, with a Saturday, Feb. 15 GSC contest at Lee University. Tip-off from Cleveland, Tenn. is slated for 6:00 p.m (CST).
