MONTGOMERY, Ala.--- The Auburn University at Montgomery's men's and women's tennis teams will return to action with their first road matchups of the year against the Columbus State University Cougars on Friday, Feb. 21 in Columbus, Ga.

ABOUT THE WARHAWKS
The Warhawks men's (1-0, 0-0 GSC) and women's (1-0, 0-0 GSC) teams took flight in their season openers against UT-Tyler on Friday, Feb. 14 with two convincing victories. AUM's Sunday, Feb. 16 contest against Spring Hill College was moved to Sunday, March 8 due to inclement weather.
Women's tennis dominated the Patriots 6-1, only losing one point out of the one slot which came in a super tiebreaker. Newcomers
Maria Casas and
Isabella Pinto both shined in their Warhawk debuts, with Casas winning 6-0 in doubles #1 and 6-4, 6-3 at the singles #4 slot and Pinto winning at the doubles #3 flight 7-6.
Juniors Alba De La Torre and
Julia Enderink continue to hold their no. 20 national ranking as double's partners, and take a 1-0 record into the weekend.
The men's team overcame an early double's deficit and won 4-3 over the Patriots by winning four of six singles matches. Four newcomers took to the court for the Warhawk men, with two singles wins from
Muhamad Bedwan (6-4, 6-3 #1 singles) and
Joao Guariente (6-3, 6-3 singles #2), and a double's win from Guariente (6-0, doubles #1).
ABOUT THE COUGARS
The number-two ranked Cougars (2-0) have started the year with wins over Alabama State (4-0) and Anderson University (7-0), having not allowed a point to either team in both victories. CSU men feature the number-two ranked player in D-II in Alvaro Regalado, and the number-two ranked double's duo of Matei Avram and Regaldo.
The number-three ranked women's tennis team (3-1) dropped their season opener at Charleston Southern 4-3, but have since tallied victories over Georgia Southwestern (7-0), Alabama State (6-1) and Anderson University (7-0). CSU features the no.10 ranked player in the nation in Luise Sachs, the no. 17 ranked player in Beatriz Lopez and the 21 ranked player in Candice Paya, in addition to the no. 10 ranked doubles duo of Kristina Baran and Lopez.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
The Warhawk men and women and the Cougars have faced off twice since 2018, with AUM falling to the Cougars in both of these prior meetings. The Warhawks will look to take the momentum from their season-opening win to break into the win column of the series.
