Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Valdosta State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team fell 5-2 in game one and lost 6-1 in game two of their twinbill with Gulf South Conference foe Valdosta State University on Saturday, Feb. 22 from QV Lowe Field, falling to 4-8 overall and 3-2 in GSC play.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME ONE
- Logan Nix led the Warhawks at the dish in game one with a three-hit performance. 
- Quinterrious Arrington and Zach Feaster both knocked a pair of hits,with Feaster scoring a run.
- Dalton Cobb added a run and a hit while Bailey Mosley and Hayden Friesen both accounted for a hit and an RBI.
- Micah Henderson (2-1) took the loss in game one, surrendering five earned over 5.2 innings of work. 
- Logan Coleman, Tyler Britton and Hunter Hillyer combined to tossed the final 3.1 innings of relief, allowing no runs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- Valdosta State cracked the board first, with a two-run shot in inning number two to take the early 2-0 advantage. 
- The Warhawks answered in their next at-bat, however, with an RBI single from Mosley to bring home Matthew Marfice and cut AUM's deficit to just 2-1.
- The Blazers added three more in the sixth inning, taking advantage of another two-run shot and an RBI single to lead 6-1.
- The Warhawks added their final run of game one when Friesen brought home Cobb with an RBI double to left field.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME ONE
- The Warhawks logged a double-digit hit effort for the sixth game in a row, outhitting the Blazers 11-10.
- Three different Warhawk's logged a multi-hit game. 
- Warhawk relief pitching allowed just four hits and one walk.
- AUM left 10 runners on base, while VSU stranded seven. 
 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME TWO
- Arrington, Nix, Cobb and Matthew Zielonko all recorded a hit, while Cobb drove in a run and Ko Powell scored a run.
- Troy Jones (1-2) tossed his second-straight complete game, allowing six earned and striking out three. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- Valdosta State cashed in for their first three runs of the game in inning number three, using an RBI single and RBI double while also taking advantage of a throwing error to account for the damage. 
- The Blazers got their next three runs from one swing of the bat, as a three-run shot by Maberry put them up 6-0.
- The Warhawks tallied their lone run of the game in inning number 6, on a Cobb RBI single to left field that brought home Powell. 
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME TWO
- Blazer pitching held AUM to its second-lowest hit total of the season, as VSU outhit the Warhawks 7-4.
- Both pitchers tossed all seven innings for the Blazers and Warhawks, with Cain (2-1) compiling a complete-game effort for VSU. 
- AUM stranded six baserunners in game two, while the Blazers left just one on base.
 
UP NEXT
- The Warhawks will play the third and final game of their weekend series with Valdosta State on Sunday, Feb. 23. First pitch from QV Lowe field is set for 1:00 p.m.
