MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team tallied three runs over the seventh and eighth innings, but their comeback effort would ultimately fall short, as they dropped their Gulf South Conference series finale with Valdosta State by a score of 9-6 on Sunday, Feb. 23.
With the loss, AUM's record falls to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in GSC action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
-
Matthew Zielonko notched a team-high three hits on the day, with a run scored and a run driven in.
-
Dalton Cobb drove in a team-high two runs on two hits while scoring twice. Cobb launched his team-leading third home run of the season in the game.

Hayden Friesen added an RBI.
-
Logan Coleman tossed a team-high 4.1 innings of scoreless relief out of the bullpen, striking out four and giving up just two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struck for a run in the first inning, with Valdosta cracking the board on a solo shot and AUM tying it up on an RBI double by Cobb to bring home
Quinterrious Arrington and make it 1-1 through one.
- The Blazers took advantage of three Warhawk errors that resulted in a total of four unearned runs coming across the plate in the third inning via an RBI single, a throwing error by AUM and a two-run shot with two outs to make it 5-1.
- The Warhawks answered in the bottom of the third, however, with RBI contributions from both Feaster and Zielonko on singles to trim their deficit to 5-3.
- VSU went on to score a pair of runs off of AUM relief pitching in both the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 9-3.
- The Warhawks added a run in the seventh via Cobb's solo shot to left field and brought across two more in the eighth to trim their deficit to just 9-6. The Warhawks loaded the bases in the eighth with no outs, and got an RBI single from Mosely and a sacrifice fly from Friesen, but could not do any more damage and would leave the bases loaded with the go-ahead run at the plate in Cobb to end the inning.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Four of the Warhawks' eight hits were extra-base hits, with Cobb logging two of those on a homer and a double.
- A total of five errors were committed in the game, with AUM accounting for three of them.
- Five of the Blazer's nine runs came in the unearned variety.
- AUM reached base to lead off an inning in five of nine frames but left 10 runners stranded.
