Men’s Hoops Edges Delta State for Fifth Win in a Row

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team logged their fifth win in a row on Saturday, Feb. 22 with an 84-83 victory over Delta State in Gulf South Conference play.
 
With the win, AUM improves to 15-11 overall and 10-8 in GSC action.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Maharrith Jackson tallied 20-plus points for the fourth time this season with a 23-point, three-rebound and three-assist performance. Jackson went 3-6 from the three-point line and 6-7 from the free-throw line.
- Joshua Moore scored 15 points while Darrion Taylor accounted for 14 points and four assists. 
- Aaron Reddick finished just one rebound shy of a double-double with a 12-point, nine-rebound performance. 
- Jeremiah Bozeman added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks outscored the Statesmen 11-7 over the fist four minutes, and took a 14-9 lead on a three-ball by Jackson with 14:53 to play in the first.
- The Statesmen battled their way back by outscoring AUM 11-6 over the next four minutes to tie the game at 20-all with 10:43 to go until halftime. 
- With the Statesmen leading 38-29 with 3:48 to go until the break, the Warhawks outscored DSU 12-6 down the stretch to trail just 44-41 at halftime.
- AUM retook the lead at the 15:52 mark in period number two, after a fast-break layup by Jackson put the Warhawks on top 50-48.
- After seeing the lead swap back-and-forth, the Warhawks went ahead for good at the 13:48 mark on a three-pointer by Bozeman to go up 57-55. 
- The Warhawks' lead switched between one, two and three possessions over the next 10-plus minutes, with the Statesmen cutting AUM's lead to just two at 78-76 with 1:35 to play.
- AUM responded on there next possession, however, with a monster three-pointer by Jackson to put the Warhawks back up by two-possessions at 81-76 with 1:16 to go. 
- With the score at 83-80 with 11 seconds left, the Warhawks got their biggest rebound of the game on a missed free-throw of theirs to get Bozeman to the line and make it an 84-80 game. The Statesmen knocked down a three-point shot with 0.7 seconds left, but AUM was able to get in the ensuing inbound pass and run out the remainder of the clock to seal the victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Five different Warhawks scored double-digit points in the game. 
- AUM shot 48 percent (14-29) in half number one and 50 percent (14-28) in half number two to finish at 49 percent (28-57) for the game.
- The Warhawks shot 45 percent (10-22) on threes and 85.7 percent (18-21) on free throws. 
- The Orange and Black scored 28 points in the paint, 19 bench points, 14 second-chance points 11 points off of DSU turnovers and 10 fast-break points.
- Saturday's game featured 15 lead changes and nine tied scores. 
 
UP NEXT
- The men's basketball team will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 27 when they take on West Georgia in GSC play in Carrollton, Ga. at 6:30 p.m.
