Lovrich Logs Career Win Number 250 in Doubleheader Sweep of Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- Head Coach Marty Lovrich recorded win number 250 of his career as the Auburn Montgomery baseball team took games two and three from Montevallo on Saturday, Feb. 29 to claim the Gulf South Conference series over the Falcons.
 
NOTEWORTHY
- The milestone win for Coach Lovrich came in game one with a 6-5 victory, while the Warhawks won game two 7-2.
- With the wins, AUM improves to 6-10 overall and 5-4 in GSC action.
- The Warhawks now hold an all-time advantage of 39-33 over Montevallo with the completion of the series.
- With base hits in both game one and two of the day, Dalton Cobb extended his current hitting streak to 14 games.
 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME ONE
- Troy Jones (2-2) tossed his third complete game of the season, surrendering five earned while striking out 11 and walking none. 
- Cobb led AUM at the dish in game one with two hits, two runs scored and two driven in. Cobb smacked his team-leading fifth home run of the year in the game. 
- Matthew Marfice, Bailey Mosley, Quinterrious Arrington and Sage Smelley all knocked two base hits in the game, with Marfice and Mosley both driving in a run.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- For the second-straight game, Cobb launched a two-run shot in the first inning to give AUM an early 2-0 lead over the Falcons.
- The Warhawks added two more runs in the third on a wild pitch and RBI knock from Marfice to lead 4-0, but the Falcons would respond with four of their own in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at four-all. Montevallo used a two-RBI double, and an RBI single and double to account for the damage in the third.
- The Warhawks reclaimed the lead in inning number five, courtesy of a Marfice double to left and a Falcon fielding error that allowed Matthew Zielonko to come around and score to make it 5-4 in favor of AUM.
- AUM added one more insurance run in the eighth to go up 6-4, courtesy of Mosley's RBI single through the right side that plated Smelley.
- Montevallo would grab one more run in the eighth on an RBI single through the left side, but the Warhawks would hold on for the 6-5 win in game one
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME ONE
- Five different Warhawks turned in a multi-hit game, with AUM outhitting Montevallo 11-7.
- AUM stole three bases in game one.
- Both teams left six runners on base in the contest.
 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME TWO
- Zielonko and Grayson Blackwell both drove in a game-high two runs, with Zielonko slugging his third home run of the season on a two-hit performance. 
- Arrington and Corey Armstrong both socked a pair of base hits and batted in a run.
- Zach Feaster, Cobb and Smelley all scored twice and recorded a base hit. 
- Sam Steigert (1-0) picked up his first win of 2020 on the mound. The righty side-winder struck out a pair of batters over 1.2 innings of work while giving up just two hits. 
- Logan Coleman (1) notched his first save a Warhawk, slamming the door shut over the final 1.1 innings of the game. Coleman struck out three batters while giving up no runs on just one hit.
- Mario Galloway tossed two innings of scoreless relief out of the AUM bullpen.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- Montevallo struck first in game two with an RBI sac fly in inning number one to grab the early 1-0 advantage. 
- The Warhawks tied it up their next time up in the top of the second on an RBI single by Arrington, but the Falcons would add another run in the bottom of inning number two to lead 2-1.
- AUM got RBI contributions from Armstrong on a single up the middle, and Blackwell on fielder's choice in inning number five to reclaim the lead at 3-2.
- The Warhawks piled on four big insurance runs in the top of the seventh, beginning with an RBI sac fly from Blackwell that plated Feaster. Zielonko accounted for the big blow in the inning a few batters later with a two-run shot to left to make it 6-2, while Casey Henderson brought across the inning's final tally with an RBI single through the left side that scored Mosley.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME TWO
- AUM collected 11 hits for the second-straight game, with three Warhawks recording multiple hits, three scoring multiple runs and two driving in multiple runs. 
- Relievers Galloway, Steigert and Coleman gave up zero runs over the final five frames while combining to give up just six base hits. 
- Warhawk pitching issued out just two walks over the course of games two and three of the series.
- AUM left nine runners on base, while Montevallo stranded 10.
 
UP NEXT  
- The Warhawks will return home for a Tuesday, March 3 contest against Point University. First pitch from QV Lowe Field is set for 4:00 p.m.
