Baseball Drops Heartbreaker in Extras at Embry-Riddle, 8-7

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team fought tooth-and-nail with Embry-Riddle, but fell at the mercy of a walk-off base hit to the Eagles in 10 innings on Saturday, Feb. 8.

With the loss, the Warhawks drop to 0-6 to begin 2020.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Ko Powell led AUM at the plate with two hits, two runs batted in and two stolen bases. Powell also scored a run.
- Grayson Blackwell also drove in a pair of runs, while also launching his first career home run as a Warhawk in the fourth.
- Kyle Khoury registered a pair of hits, in addition to scoring twice.
- Starting pitcher Troy Jones tossed a season-high five innings while striking out three and allowing five earned.
Logan Coleman (0-2) tossed the final 1.2 innings, striking out a pair.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After seeing the Eagles tally three runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Warhawks responded with five runs in the top of the second to lead 5-3. AUM took advantage of a pair of Eagle errors, a two-RBI single by Powell and an RBI groundout by Blackwell to account for the damage.
- Embry-Riddle responded in their next at-bat, however, with a two-RBI double to tie the game at 5-5.
- The Warhawks added two more runs in the third and fourth innings, with Henderson plating a run in the third and Blackwell going bridge in fourth to make it 7-5.
- AUM held onto their lead all the way to the bottom of the eighth, when the Eagles used a one-out bases-loaded walk to make it 7-6, and an RBI fielders choice with the bases juiced to make it 7-7.
- With the bases loaded and one away in the bottom of the 10th, the Eagles came through with a walk-off single through the right side to claim the extra-inning victory.

INSIDE BOXSCORE
- The Warhawks tallied double-digit hits for the second time this season but were outhit by the Eagles 15-10.
- AUM reached based to lead off an inning in seven of 10 frames but was only able to push across a run in three total innings. Embry-Riddle got their leadoff man on in just one of 10 innings.
- The Warhawks batted .238 with runners on and .231 with runners in scoring position in the contest.
- AUM left nine men on base, while Embry-Riddle stranded 10.
