Baseball Bests Eagles in Series Finale, 9-6

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team tallied a season-high nine runs on 13 hits en route to knocking off Embry Riddle 9-6 for their first victory as full-fledged members of NCAA Division II on Sunday, Feb, 9.

The Warhawks improve to 1-6 with the win

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Matthew Zielonko led AUM on offense with a four-hit, five-RBI game. Zielonko also accounted for a double and stolen base.
- Joseph Hartsfield drove in a pair of runs and scored twice while recording one base hit on the day.
- Dalton Cobb scored a game-high three runs, in addition to registering a pair of base hits and one RBI.
- Bailey Mosley and Matthew Marfice both also knocked a pair of base hits, with Mosley scoring twice.
Corey Armstrong added a hit and an RBI, while Sage Smelley scored once in the game and picked up a base hit.
- On the mound, starter Micah Henderson (1-0) tossed six innings in his second-straight outing for AUM, striking out three and walking just one.
- Relievers Tommy Vickers and Hunter Hillyer combined to throw the final three frames, with Hillyer working the eighth and ninth innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 - The Warhawks cracked the scoreboard first in the game with a four-spot in inning number three. A Hartsfield double down the left-field line plated AUM's first two runs of the game, followed by a two-RBI single up the middle by Zielonko to give the Warhawks a 4-0 lead.
- After seeing the Eagles score a pair of runs in the fourth, The Warhawks responded with a run of their own in the fifth, courtesy of a Zielonko two-bagger to center field that brought home Cobb.
- The Warhawk offense kicked it up a notch in inning number six, plating four runs on three hits. Cobb got the scoring going in the sixth on an RBI base on balls, followed by an Armstrong RBI single through the right side and a two-RBI single to right field by Zielonko to make it 9-2.
- The Eagles responded with three runs in the sixth and one in the ninth, but it would not be enough to catch the Warhawks.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Four different Warhawks recorded multiple base hits, three scored multiple runs and two tallied multiple RBIs.
- AUM pitching kept the ball in the strike zone all game long, surrendering a season-low one walk and one hit batsman.
- The Orange and Black posted a .400 (6-15) batting average with two outs in the game and collected five two-out RBIs.
- The Warhawks batted .350 (7-20) with runners on, and .333 (5-15) with runners in scoring position.

UP NEXT
