CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Delta State University on Saturday, March 7, taking game one 8-4 and falling 14-4 in game two to the Statesmen.
NOTEWORTHY
- The Warhawks' record now sits at 7-12 overall, and 6-6 in GSC action.
- The game-two win in the twinbill for Delta State served as the series-clincher, taking the three-game set two games to one over AUM.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME ONE

Hayden Friesen led AUM at the plate in game one, with a team-high three hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored. The senior utility man also slugged a pair of doubles.

Matthew Zielonko also batted in three runs, with a run scored.

Bailey Mosley accounted for a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored, while
Casey Henderson added an RBI single and three walks.

Dalton Cobb notched a base hit and a run, pushing his hitting streak to 16 games.

Troy Jones (3-2) struck out eight over 6.1 innings of labor while surrendering just two runs en route to his third win of the season.

Logan Coleman and
Sam Steigert tossed the final 2.2 innings of work out of the bullpen, giving up just one earned run on two hits. Steigert struck out three Statesmen over the final two innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- The Warhawks struck first in game one, courtesy of a two-out RBI knock by C. Henderson up the middle in the second to put AUM on top 1-0.
- AUM added three more runs their next time up in the third, on Friesen's two-out, bases-loaded double to center field to bring home three runs and put the Warhawks up 4-0. A pair of two-out walks and a Statesmen fielding error helped set up Friesen's RBI opportunity with the bases juiced.
- The Warhawks were able to capitalize once again with the bases loaded, adding three more runs in the fourth on Zielonko's three-run double to right with the bases loaded to put AUM up 7-0.
- After scoring their eighth run of the game on a sac fly from Mosley in inning number seven, the Warhawks would surrender their first two runs of the game to the Statesmen in innnig number seven.
- DSU took advantage of three hits, including a pair of RBI singles, in the inning to account for their run total in the seventh. Coleman was able to limit the damage on the mound with a bases-loaded strikeout to end the frame.
- The Statesmen added two more runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, before giving way to the 8-4 final.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME ONE
- All eight of the Warhawks' run were driven in, with seven of those eight coming with two outs.
- Both teams collected eight hits in game one.
- Warhawk pitching struck out a season-high 12 batters in game one.
- AUM held Delta State to just one leadoff base runner all game while holding the Statesmen to just a .200 (2-10) batting average with runners on base.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME TWO

Zach Feaster knocked a team-high three base hits in game two, including his first collegiate home run. The sophomore backstop scored twice and drove in a run.
- C. Henderson drove in a team-high two runs, while
Logan Nix also accounted for a run driven in.
- Zielonko picked up a run and a hit while
Dalton Cobb extended his current hitting streak to 17 games with a base hit in the seventh inning of game two.

Tommy Vickers and
Blake Sheffer combined to toss the final three innings of relief in game two, with Vickers working a scoreless inning and Sheffer allowing just one earned over two frames.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- AUM cracked the board first again, with Feaster's second-inning blast to left field putting the Warhawks up 1-0 early.
- Delta State responded with seven runs over their next two at-bats, however. The Statesmen tallied four runs on four hits in the second and three runs on one hit in the third to lead 7-1.
- The Warhawks got an RBI base on balls from
Logan Nix and a two-RBI knock from C. Henderson to make it just a 7-4 lead for DSU, but the Statesmen would hang up a five-spot on four hits in the fourth to extend their lead to 12-4.
- DSU added their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single and sac fly, giving way to the 14-4 final score.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME TWO
- The Statesmen registered only two more hits than AUM, outhitting the Orange and Black 10-8.
- The Warhawks batted .308 (8-26) in game two, including a mark of .333 (3-9) with runners in scoring position.
- AUM got three of seven (.429) leadoff batters on base in game two but left seven runners stranded.

- The baseball team will host Talladega College for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 10. First pitch from QV Lowe Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
