Warhawks Sweep Saturday Doubleheader for Fifth-Straight Win

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team captured an 11-3 win and a 3-0 shutout on the road over Gulf South Conference opponent Delta State on Saturday afternoon to sweep the three-game series.

NOTES
- The Warhawks move to 10 games over .500 with a 15-5 record.
- The Orange & Black's conference record sits at 8-4 after the sweep.
- AUM earns their first GSC sweep in program history.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME 1
- Olivia Aycock went 3-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.
- Kendall Tucker knocked her second home run of the series.
- Freshman Lauren Haskins raced two doubles and drove in two runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- AUM wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning of action as Molly Cobb ripped a ball through the left side of the infield that scored Allie Miller and Aycock. Three batters later, Tucker came up and launched a ball over the left field wall to extend the Warhawks' lead to 4-0.
- Delta State loaded the bases in the second inning off starter Chanel Newcomer with one out but only managed to score on a hit by pitch to bring the game to 5-1 at the time.
- Haskins made sure to get the run back for her pitcher as the freshman laced a ball into left field to score the pinch runner Tatiana Ervin, allowing AUM to regain their five-run lead.
- The Lady Statesmen fought back in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run homer off Bailie Barnes to cut the Warhawks lead in half in the middle stages of the game.
- AUM was determined to put their foot on the gas in the next inning, starting with Haskins' second RBI double of the game. Tucker was able to manufacture a run with an RBI groundout that pushed the AUM lead to 8-3.
-  Maddie Parks was able to net a pinch-hit walk to score Haskins on a passed ball, while the leadoff hitter Aycock was able to give the Warhawks a two-run single to secure the run-rule victory over the Lady Statesmen.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE GAME 1
- The Warhawks tallied three extra base hits.
- Newcomer and Barnes each recorded four strikeouts.
- Both teams left three runners on base.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS GAME 2
- Miller launched an opposite-field three-run homer.
- Alanna Goble threw a one-hit shutout while striking out six.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- The Warhawks threatened to score first once again to start the ballgame, but the Delta State pitching limited the damage, forcing the Orange & Black to strand two runners on base in the opening frame.
- The only hit allowed by freshman phenom Goble came in the bottom of the second on a one-out single by Mary Sweatt. The single in the second and a walk in the third were the only baserunners that the Lady Statesmen earned.
- The third inning featured the entirety of the offense from both teams and it came off one swing of the bat. Miller came to the dish with Ervin and Cobb on base and laced an opposite-field home run to give the Warhawks the three runs they needed to win the ballgame.
