Women’s Soccer Names 11 to All-Decade Team

| By:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer program has named 11 players to the all-decade team. AUM women's soccer won 80 games in the decade and made five conference tournament appearances.

After one of the greatest careers of all-time, Ruby Mendez (2016-19) has been named the Player of The Decade. Mendez totaled 52 career goals (third all-time), 267 shots (third all-time), and 115 points (fourth all-time). Mendez was also the only player in program history to register more than five points in a single half with six against Spring Hill in 2018.

Holly Clarke stands in net for the all-decade team. She started 48 games for the Orange & Black in her career, allowing less than a goal per game at .985. Clarke stands fourth all-time in matches played (48), sixth all-time in saves (131), and ranks fifth all-time in shutouts with eight.

The defense for the all-decade team proved to be a formidable backline throughout their careers. Maren Heller (2012-13), Julia Losert (2014-15), Nicole Letford (2011-13) and Ida Bjerklund (2012-15) form the four players who stand in front of Clarke on the field.

Jana Yates played one year for the Warhawks in 2010 but made a big impact on a team that went 12-6-1. The 2010 edition of AUM women's soccer was able to enter the second round of the tournament before falling to future GSC rival Lee in penalties. Yates netted five goals, four assists and 14 points in 18 games played in 2010.

Krista Hagen anchored down the midfield from 2011-14 for the Warhawks and was a stellar contributor defensively. Hagen was able to find the back of the net twice in her career and added 10 assists en route to a 14-point career.

Helga Franklinsdottir (2009-11) played two seasons for AUM in the 2010s but made an impact in all three years played as a Warhawk. Franklinsdottir accounted for 18 goals and seven assists in her career and currently ranks 10th all-time in shots with 104.

Amber Elam can be argued as one of the greatest players in AUM Athletics history. Despite only playing in one season during the 2010s, Elam made the list. She ranks second all-time in goals (70), third in assists (31), first in shots (426) and second in points (171). Elam holds the program's record for most goals in a single game with five against Columbia (S.C.) in 2009.

Margaret Albertsdottir (2009-12) came alive offensively late in her career with the Orange & Black. She scored 14 of her 28 career goals in her senior season, including 34 of her 73 career points in her final season at AUM. Albertsdottir holds the sixth-most goals in program history and ranks fourth all-time in shots with 186.

The women's soccer all-decade team features eight all-Americans, 10 all-conference selections, one SSAC Freshman of The Year and one D2CCA All-South Region second-team appearance.
