MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball junior guard
Jordan Brewster scored a season-high 24 points in AUM's 64-54 loss to Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia on Tuesday night.
Brewster was able to register 15 points in the first quarter with five triples to start the game. Additions from the 3-point line were a regular for the Tennessee native as she finished eight threes, one 3-pointer shy of tying the single-game record for most 3-pointers in a game.
The Warhawks still find themselves winless this season after six games while West Georgia snaps a winless streak of four games to climb to 5-5 on the year.
AUM came ready to play in the first quarter as just 16 seconds into the game, Brewster was able to knock down a triple to open the scoring. After a layup from
Gracie Lee, AUM scored 14-straight points to jump out to a 19-2.
A West Georgia 3-pointer stopped the AUM run momentarily. However, an unrelenting onslaught of scoring from the Warhawks left the Wolves with a 28-12 deficit after one quarter of action.
West Georgia was able to flip the script on AUM in the second quarter as UWG was able to find their groove offensively. The Wolves jumped out to a quick 7-1 run to begin the quarter with some 3-point shooting while also getting to the line.
The second quarter did not get any easier for the AUM defense as West Georgia finished the first half on a 20-4 run to tie the game going into the third quarter.
AUM was able to cut the deficit to one in the early stages of the third quarter thanks to a pair of free throws from
Savannah Nunn to run the score to 35-34. West Georgia, however, would go on a 9-2 run to stretch their lead out to 44-37 before AUM was able to claw back to a five-point deficit at the end of three.
An 8-2 run from the Wolves waited for the Warhawks to begin the fourth quarter to give UWG an 11-point lead before
Jamya Tyus answered with three-consecutive points of her own. A late Brewster 3-pointer cut the West Georgia lead to seven, but the Wolves never allowed AUM to get back into the game as they pulled out a 64-54 win in Montgomery.
The Warhawks will continue their stretch of GSC games when they travel to rival Montevallo on Friday and Saturday for a weekend set against the Falcons. Game one on Friday is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
