PENSACOLA, Fla. –The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team outscored West Florida 49-35 in half number two en route to securing an 81-72 victory over the Argonauts on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
The win marks for AUM's first of the 2020-21 season, bringing the Warhawks' record to 1-2. West Florida falls to 1-1.
Four different Warhawks scored in double figures in the victory, led by double-doubles from seniors
Jeremiah Bozeman and
Maharrith Jackson. Bozeman tallied a career-best 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Jackson logged 19 points with 10 boards.
Bozeman (14) and Jackson (11) additionally combined for 25 of the Warhawks' 31 successful free throws.
Sam Youngblood accounted for 15 points while going four of six on threes and hauling in four rebounds. The freshman guard has now scored in double figures in two of his first three games as a Warhawk.
Senior guard
Stanley Davis also finished in double figures in scoring, notching 10 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams shot 50 percent over the game's first five minutes, with AUM sinking three of their first six field goals and UWF draining four of their first eight to hold an 11-10 advantage over AUM at the 15:09 mark.
The Argos kept their lead between one and two possessions over the next few minutes, and while leading 21-18 at the 10:17 mark, UWF would go on to rattle off a 10-3 run over the next four minutes to take their largest lead of the game at 31-21 with 5:18 remaining in the half.
The Warhawks would chip away at the Argo lead over the final five minutes of the half with an 11-6 run, capped off by a Youngblood three in the period's final seconds to trail just 37-32 to UWF at halftime.
A 12-4 run from the 18:54 to the 15:23 mark in the second half saw the Warhawks retake the lead at 44-43, and after going up once again 46-44 with 13:57 left, AUM would stay on top for the remainder of the contest.
AUM was able to create some breathing room courtesy of another 12-4 run between the 8:37 and 3:49 mark, going up 66-55 after a pair of Bozeman free throws. UWF was able to get back within six and five points with under a minute left, but the Warhawks were able to ice the game with free-throw shooting down the stretch.
The Warhawks proved superior in the low post in Tuesday's contest, out-rebounding West Florida 48-36 and scoring 26 points in the paint.
AUM shot a season-high 46 percent (6-13) on three-pointers, while holding the Argos to just 19 percent (7-36).

Credit also needs to go out to their teammates for following them. We can definitely see the gel starting to come together with this team and are hoping that this will ultimately lead to more great team performances and victories."
