MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 Gulf South Conference victory over Spring Hill College on Sunday, Oct. 10.
The win improves AUM's record to 6-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in GSC action. The Warhawks now hold an all-time record of 19-5-1 over the Badgers.
Phillip Spickenbaum punched in the game's lone goal in minute number 52, following a phenomenal run by
Lucas Batistela into the box, who picked up the assist. The scored marked for Spickenbaum's second of the season.
AUM edged Spring Hill College in total shots, 11-9, with both teams tallying three shots on goal.
In goal,
Alexander Kraus notched his gsc-leading fourth shutout of 2021. The senior keeper, whose 0.54 goals against average leads the conference, stopped three shots on the way to improving his 2021 record to 6-2-1.
"Bounce back-ability was today's theme," Head Coach
Matthew Thorne said. "The lads showed lots of character and put in an absolute shift, because Sunday games are never easy. Today's win was a testament to how deep and quality our roster is. Being able to rotate more than most teams really helped us today, because having as much freshness as possible is a key factor in winning those Sunday games following a Friday game. Getting a win after Friday was very important for us, so we're very delighted to be able to do that. We'll enjoy this today, and then shift our focus to a couple tough road contests at West Alabama and UAH next week."
The men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 15 against West Alabama. Start time from Livingston, Ala. is set for 7:30 p.m.
