ROME, Ga. – Auburn University at Montgomery men's tennis standouts and former South Region ITA Rookie of The Year's,
Muhamad Bedwan and
David Rieme put together a great performance at the ITA Cup over the weekend.
After finishing as the runner-up in the ITA Small College Championships in Lakeland, Florida, the duo pairing of Bedwan and Rieme qualified for the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, hosted by Berry College.
Despite not playing together in doubles action, the partnership of Bedwan and Rieme found a spark of excellence on the national stage. In 2021, Rieme posted an 8-8 doubles record while Bedwan netted a 9-6 mark in doubles action.
AUM drew a matchup with a duo from Ouachita Baptist. Francisco Oliveira and Santiago Kearney were tasked with going up against the Gulf South Conference Freshman of The Year and a former Rookie of The Year.
In the first-round contest, the Warhawks blew through the Tigers 6-2, 6-3 to move on to the "Elite 8" of the national tournament. The win sent AUM to a showdown with Guilherme Dos Santos and Marin Jurkovic from Southeastern Oklahoma State.
After an epic battle with a spot in the last four on the line, Bedwan and Rieme fell to SEOS 6-3, 6-7(3), [9-11]. Rieme, Bedwan, and the rest of the Warhawks will now turn their heads to the remainder of their fall schedule.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams will stay in Montgomery for the Gulf South Conference fall tournament this weekend from October 22-24.
