Volleyball Fends Off Falcons for 3-1 Road Win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery volleyball team picked up a 3-1 Gulf South Conference road win against in-state rival Montevallo on Friday, Oct. 8.
 
The win improves AUM's record to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in GSC play.
 
Isadora Nicolai helped lead the Warhawks to victory by registering her 10th double-double of the season. The senior setter tallied 25 assists to go along with 14 digs. 
 
Carla Butler (14) and Nyah Whittlesey (11) both accounted for double-digit kills while Amber Bretwisch (20) and Nicolai (25) posted 20 or more assists each. Reann Cato led the Warhawks with 16 digs, with Keren Santana (10) and Nicolai (14) following suit with double-digit digs.
 
The Warhawks led by as many as five points in set one, but would see the Falcons fight back to tie the match at 23-all before AUM would score the set's final two points for the win.
 
Set two featured a back-and-fourth battle and saw the Warhawks post a match-high .357 hitting percentage. AUM eventually put the Falcons away by scoring five of the set's final six points.
 
After a sloppy third set that saw AUM fall 25-18, the Warhawks rebounded in set four to clinch the match. AUM rode a tidal wave of momentum to get to the finish line after going on a 6-2 run to go up 23-20.
 
AUM posted a hitting percentage of .264 (59-166) on the night, with sets one (.333) and two (.357) serving as their most efficient attacking sets. The Warhawks totaled a season-high 10 blocks, with Santana leading the way with four block assists and one block solo.
 
The volleyball team will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 9 at Alabama Huntsville. First serve rom Huntsville, Ala. is set for 2:00 p.m.
