Warhawks Falter Late In Season Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After jumping out to a 34-16 lead at halftime over Lemoyne-Owen, the Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team was outscored 41-12 to end the game and ultimately fell in the season opener 57-46.

AUM begins the season 0-1 while Lemoyne-Owen picks up their first win of the season and now sits a 1-2 on the year.

Jordan Brewster used a terrific first half to lead the Warhawks in scoring to begin the year. The Tennessee native went 6-13 from 3-point range to finish with 18 points.

Brewster was ready to go from the opening tip as she posted three-consecutive 3-pointers to give AUM an early 9-0 lead in the first quarter. After the Lady Magicians captured their first two points, AUM went on a 7-0 run to stretch their lead to 16-4 and would lead 18-8 after the first quarter.

Scoring went cold for both teams to begin the second quarter. Midway through the second, a layup from Demaurea Moore gave the Warhawks a 29-15 advantage over Lemoyne-Owen. A 3-pointer from Tamia Willingham-King with 1:47 left in the half gave AUM their 34-16 lead at the break.

AUM seemed to be under control to start the third quarter as points from Brewster, and Jamya Tyus kept the AUM lead at 18. Tyus' layup at the six-minute mark was the last points AUM scored in the third, as Lemoyne-Owen came back to cut the AUM lead to 38-28 after three quarters.

The massive scoring run for Lemoyne-Owen kept churning to start the fourth quarter as the Lady Magicians scored 28 unanswered points to take a 53-38 lead over the Warhawks in the fourth quarter. Late points from AUM were not enough as they would fall on the road to begin the year 57-46.

The Warhawks will look to rebound on Saturday when they travel to Nashville to take on Trevecca Nazarene. The meeting with the Trojans is slated to start at 2 p.m.
