Volleyball Falls In Four To Chargers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team fell to Alabama Huntsville 3-1 at the AUM Gymnasium on Tuesday night in front of a packed crowd to end their three-game homestand.

The Warhawks fall to 16-12 on the year with a 7-5 record in Gulf South action. Alabama Huntsville, meanwhile, improves to 18-7 and 10-2 in GSC play to maintain their position in second place in the league.

Giada Pais-Marden and Nyah Whittlesey were the only two Warhawks to reach double figures in kills during the match as Pais-Marden led the way with 14 while Whittlesey netted 10.

Keren Santana was one dig shy of reaching 20 for the match, while teammates Carla Butler and Berkleigh Davidson recorded 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

The Chargers raced out to an early lead to begin the match against the Warhawks. UAH led 9-4 early in the match before Pais-Marden cut the lead down to 10-6. UAH, however, answered with six in a row to take a 16-6 lead. AUM was able to answer with nine straight to shorten their lead to one, but UAH went on another big run late in the set to take the first frame 25-20.

Set two was played closer to start than the first set of the match as the first 14 points were split between the two teams. After the 7-7 draw, UAH put together five straight before the Warhawks answered with four of their own unanswered points. AUM was able to hang around late in the set, but after a service error from the Chargers to run the score to 21-19, UAH took the last four points to win the second set 25-19.

Despite Alabama Huntsville racing out to an 11-4 lead, the Warhawks were able to battle back and take an eventual 16-15 lead after a kill from Santana. UAH had a late 23-21 lead over the Warhawks, looking to put the game away, but AUM rallied to take four straight points to stay alive in the match.

Alabama Huntsville raced out to an early lead that AUM was not able to recover from in the fourth set. Set four quickly saw the Warhawks down 19-10. The Warhawks were able to rally late in the fourth set by cutting the score to 24-17, but UAH took the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1 over AUM.

The Warhawks will hit the road for the final time in the regular season when they travel to Livingston, Alabama, to take on West Alabama on Friday before finishing the road schedule with a road match against the Lady Choctaws in Clinton, Mississippi, on Saturday.
