Warhawks Fall To Falcons In Conference Opener

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team fell to Gulf South Conference rival Montevallo 69-58 on the road on Saturday afternoon to open conference action.

The Warhawks' four-game win streak is snapped with the loss, and their record now stands at 4-2 on the season. Montevallo, meanwhile, ends their four-game skid with the win over AUM.

Jamya Tyus once again led the Warhawks in scoring with 12 points, while Allasha Dudley and Kailyn Farrell both scored 11 points. Senior transfer Demaurea Moore cleaned the glass with a team-high eight rebounds.

The Warhawks and Falcons were locked in a back-and-forth battle to begin the first quarter. The first 26 points of the game were split between the two teams resulting in a 13-13 tie with 3:32 left in the first. The Warhawks were able to finish well late in the period, thanks to three points from Catlin Carter and a layup with three seconds left from Jamya Tyus. AUM led 21-17 after one-quarter of action.

Montevallo came alive in the middle stages of the second quarter after AUM was able to keep them at bay for the start of the period. The Falcons were able to take the lead over AUM with four minutes left, and would lead 35-30 at the end of the first half.

The Falcons grew their lead to start the third quarter, going on a 12-2 run to push their lead to 42-34 over the Warhawks in the third. Dudley and the Warhawks were able to tie the game and take the lead late in the third and would lead by four after the third quarter 50-46.

AUM struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, netting just eight points in the final frame. Montevallo retook the lead early in the final period and would never look back, taking the conference opener 69-58 against AUM.

The Warhawks will return to action on Sunday, December 12, when they host Delta State to open the home conference schedule. The action from the AUM Gymnasium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
