Men’s Hoops Downed at #25 Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team dropped their second and final game of the weekend at #25 Valdosta State 101-84 on Saturday, Feb. 13.

With the loss, AUM's record sits at 2-8, while the Blazers improve to 12-4.

Stanley Davis led a group of four Warhawks in double figures with 21 points on the afternoon. The senior guard shot 7-15 from the floor, including 3-6 from threes.

Maharrith Jackson and Jeremiah Bozeman both tallied 15 points, with Jackson going for nine rebounds. Junior guard Ryan Sanders added a season-best 10 points in the setback.

Valdosta State knocked down their first six shots of the game to take a 14-5 lead over AUM at the 15:13 mark. AUM would respond over the next three minutes with a quick 13-3 run to even the score up at 17-all at the 11:54 mark.

The Blazers would go on to rattle off another big scoring run to close out the half, this time outscoring AUM 18-5 over the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 50-36 lead into the break.

Both teams totaled 11 points each over the first four minutes of the second half, with the score reading 61-47 in favor of VSU at the 15:39 mark.

The Warhawks got as close as 12 points to the Blazers on a three-point play from Bozeman to make it 86-74 with 5:16 to play, but a 51 percent (17-33) shooting effort in the half from Valdosta State proved to be too much.

AUM outscored VSU down low for the second night in a row, collecting 48 points in the paint. The Warhawks finished the game at 45 percent (31-69) on all field goals, 41 percent (7-17) on threes, and 79 percent (15-19) on free throws.

Valdosta State shot 54 percent (36-66) from the floor, 44 percent (13-29) from beyond the arc, and 76 percent (16-21) from the charity stripe.

The men's basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the University of Montevallo. Tip-off from Montevallo, Ala. is slated for 6:00 p.m.
