MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team fell 71-59 to Gulf South Conference foe West Florida on Saturday, Feb. 20, one night after besting the Argonauts 74-65.
With the loss, AUM's record falls to 3-10, while West Florida improves to 6-10.
James Graham led a trio of Warhawks in double digits with 12 points on the day. The junior forward also grabbed three rebounds.
Jeremiah Bozeman and
Roderick Smith both added 10 points and seven rebounds, while
Maharrith Jackson accounted for seven points and nine rebounds.
The Warhawks opened up the game by sinking five of their first seven shots to take a 12-3 lead at the 16:28 mark. West Florida would respond with a 12-2 run over the next three minutes, however, to take a 15-14 lead at the 13:07 mark.
AUM came charging back with a 14-5 run over the next four minutes, knocking down six of 10 shots to lead 28-20 at the 7:04 mark. A 15-6 run by UWF over the final six minutes of the first half would give way to the 35-34 score in favor of the Argos at halftime.
The Argos opened up half number two by knocking down five of their first six shots as part of a 10-2 run to lead 45-36 over AUM at the 17:03 mark.
AUM would cut their deficit to just four at 45-41, but the Argos would once again rattle off another big scoring run (15-4) to go up 60-43 at the 10:59 mark.
The Warhawks came storming back with a 14-2 run over the next seven minutes to trail just 62-57 at the 3:46 mark, but the Argos would score nine of the game's final 11 points to clinch the 71-59 win.
AUM shot just 38 percent (21-55) from the floor in the setback, their second-lowest efficiency of the season. AUM shot 23 percent (5-21) on threes and 66 percent (12-18) on free throws.
The men's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 when they host West Georgia from the AUM Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
