Wolves Down Men’s Basketball at Home

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery men's basketball team dropped a 77-63 decision to the Wolves of West Georgia on Tuesday, Feb. 23 from the AUM Gymnasium.

With the loss, AUM's record falls to 3-11 on the year and West Georgia improves to 11-6.

Roderick Smith led a group of four Warhawks in double figures with 14 points. Smith also hauled in four rebounds.

James Graham accounted for 12 points and three rebounds, while Maharrith Jackson and Stanley Davis both added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Both teams tallied 11 points over the first four and a half minutes, with a Smith layup at the 15:24 mark tying the game at 11-all.

The Wolves would heat up from the floor and knock down eight of their next 12, including four of four threes, as part of a 20-9 run to go up 31-20 at the 10:42 mark.

The Warhawks would score the next seven points unanswered to make it a 31-27 game at the 8:38 mark, but the Wolves would counter with eight of their own unanswered to go up 39-29 at the 5:53 mark. AUM outscored UWG 8-6 over the final four minutes to give way to the 45-37 halftime score.

The Warhawks and Wolves both got off to cold starts in the second half, tallying just six points each over the first five minutes. With the score reading 53-43 in UWG's favor at the 13:13 mark, AUM would score five unanswered over the next minute and a half to trail just 53-48 at the 10:56 mark.

The Wolves would use a 17-6 run over the next six minutes to put the game out of reach. UWG knocked down six of 13 shots over that period, including two of three treys, to go up 70-54 at the 3:12 mark.

AUM finished the contest shooting 38 percent (22-57) from the floor, 31 percent (5-16) from three, and just 58 percent (14-24) from the free throw line.

The men's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 24 with a rematch against West Georgia from Carrollton, Ga. at 5:00 p.m. (CST).
